Thanks for your review. Did the GS on display have the LED headlights?

I can't wait until Saturday as I'm off to the bike show at the NEC with some mates. I've heard that they're releasing prices in the UK at the show.:clap

The one in San Mateo had Halogen lights and did not include the "driving light" option, either.

Note that the parking light bulb is now inside the main headlamp, not separate like it is in the hexheads and camheads.

I don't believe the Dallas show bike had the LED headlights. Either i missed that detail or they weren't there to impress me. Also, the radiators are tiny on that thing- small bore MX bike small. Tucked up high I think they be fairly survivable of tip overs.

My guess is the new one will be just a little better all around given slightly bigger tires, a really robust looking frame upgrade, longer swing arm and the more powerful motor.

I also forgot to mention there was a BMW guy standing next to it with an iPad. When he found out I was an owner of the previous model he was very interested in conducting a survey. I think BMW is very concerned about what their customers think of the new model. Being such a big seller it's no surprise i guess. He was also interested in cross over customers from their car division, which I also own- an older X5. Nice that they conduct real "street research" on customer opinions in different markets.

Anyone know what the gear ratios are. I hope they lower the first gear more than the current GS.

    Primary ratio - 1.65

    II - 1.714
    III - 1.296
    IV - 1.059
    V - 0.943

You'll have to find the old ones yourself. These are the ones for the 2013 model.

Given those numbers, the size of the rear tire, (and assuming my calculations are correct :D)

    at 2000 RPM you'll be going 13, 18, 24, 30, 33, and 37 MPH
    at 4000 RPM you'll be going 25, 36, 48, 59, 66, and 73 MPH
    at 6000 RPM you'll be going 38, 45, 72, 88, 99, and 110 MPH

Nah... Totally bogus numbers. You forgot that as you go faster centrifugal force makes the tires get larger in diameter, thus the gear ratios get taller. It will easily do 165 at 6000 rpm.

have there been any independent ride reports written yet? seems like there should have been a press ride of some sorts by now considering the bike will be in showrooms in a couple of months.

As far as I know the press haven't had a go yet. The first press event I belive is scheduled for February, I can't remember where it is in the world for the life of me though.

Maybe they haven't actually built a running version of a production bike yet.

Didn't somebody say that the bikes at the shows weren't able to be started?

They will be tooling up for the new bike and getting it ready for production. I have actually seen vehicles where the press get access at the same time as they go on sale.

The report i got was that the release was in February, possibly in South Africa (?) and that they would hit showrooms a couple weeks after that in early March. When they hit the US is another matter. There was talk it might not be until August/Sept.

Any idea how the new GS ratios compares to the current GSA? I've looked at the tables but honestly transmissions are greek to me.

That could not be true, cause they have built at least 3 bikes that Tina, Chrs and off-rode rider road to the show. Someone had posted a picture which showing oil in the oil-check glass. If they could not start the bike at the how perhaps they have disabled something for safety at the shows. I highly doubt that those bies at the shows are not rideable.
