Have been toying with the idea of buying a Ural, but after sitting on one today, I have decided the best option for me would be to put a Ural sidecar on my R1100GS. What I was wanting to know is, are the any sidecarists in Brisbane, who I can talk to about learning to ride a sidecar, "hacking" my GS and who would be prepared to take my wife for a short ride and let me have a short ride (around the block) to see if it really is for us, before I commit to spending the money. Also Dave Kellett (Kellett Engineering - Slacks Creek) and RHD in Townsville were recommended to me as people who could manufacture a subframe and set it all up for me. Any one had any dealings with them in relation to sidecars? Thanks Rick
If your prepared to do a bit of travel I can highly recommend someone here in Victoria who would do a fantastic job. I can't speak for the quality of either Kellett's or RHD cause I haven't seen any of their workmanship, but Phyllis's work is outstanding.
There is this, pricey on first glance but will answer all your questions, except for the manufacturing bits. Been thinking of taking the wife for a try myself,it's New England it qualifies as a romantic weekend doesn't it? Just in case you don't know of this option.http://uralofoz.com.au/pb/wp_8443f4fa/wp_8443f4fa.html
Dave Kellets the man, drop in to see him and have a chat and you will see for yourself his knowledge & love of chairs &motorcycles in general.
I had a Chang Jiang sidecar fitted to my 1100gs by Phil Duffy near Creswick (Vic). I am very happy with the end result. This link will give you an idea of how it went: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=806998 I think the intro ride at Ural Aust would be money well spent, to see if you both enjoy it. Happy to chat further if you wish to pm me.
