Looking for a SUV or wagon that will be a commuter and getaway vehicle. Looking to get down to one vehicle.

    Must get at least 30mpg.

    AWD or 4wd.

Be able to haul 3 adults with luggage and pull a 1500lb trailer.

    What do you guys have?

    30 mpg highway?

The VW Toureg TDI is close.
The Subaru Outback 2.5 hits it.
    The Forester 2.5 claims 32.

I second the other replies. You'll get close to the MPG with something like an Audi Allroad, or just about any Subie wagon. Some Subarus will even hit the 30 mpg you're looking for.

That's probably your only bet, though. New "SUVs" that claim 30 mpg are softroaders -- most aren't even set up for towing, let alone off-roading. They're basically worse-handling cars.

I'd go for the Touareg (yes, that's how you spell it) TDI, though. You'll get a few worse mpgs (I think they'll do mid-20's on the highway, if memory serves me), but leave in one hell of an SUV. It'll pull a 747, climb steep hills, go over all sorts of terrain, and do it in relative comfort.

Range Rover Evoque. 25 mpg around town, will pull 3500 lbs ( I have pulled 1500 with out issue and no appreciable reduction in performance)

In sport mode its just damm fun.

    4 adults is no problem

I went from an F150 to this and love it.
