ORBDR River Crossings

This was pretty early in the day and I just went for it. Right after watching my buddy dump his bike half way across.

And this was the second crossing that was not quite as epic but I was just glad I didn't dump the bike because it was deep!

That first crossing isn't nearly as deep, but it's a lot harder due to the large slick river rocks on the bottom.

He dumped the 1190??? Yikes!

(I want one of those so bad!)

Ya it doesn't look that bad but those are some big slippery rocks. His crash bars kept the air intakes above water and he had it back up almost as fast as he went down (adrenaline!). Getting started moving from a dead stop in the middle of the river was the real challenge.

Maybe I missed you saying, but where are the crossings? A handful of us did the loop of 3, 2, 5 and 4 last week and didn't get to attempt one...

Likely sometime after my rib cartilage and finger fracture heal up.

A friend and I did those crossings over the weekend. Wasn't bad. Malheur was about 18" deep. Cane Creek was 18" on the west side and dropped down under 12" as you went across. As long as you modulated the throttle and didn't give it too much gas, you were fine.. otherwise the bike would get squirrely quick, as my friend found out! He saved it though.

Thanks! I shot that on my Galaxy Note 3.

Thankfully he went first, so I modified my approach and knew not to over-gas it. I went farther to the right than he did (closer to the little wall) and it was much better.

I got video of him crossing Malheur too but it was far less entertaining so I didn't even bother uploading it. We camped for the night on the other side of that crossing (east side) in that clear grassy area by the river. Was quite nice, if cold. I need a much heavier sleeping bag. 20-deg rating my ass.

The new iPhone 6 should totally rock. I would get one but I have a year left on my contract. The Note 3 is a nice phone though. I love the glove-compatibility mode, so I can use it with it clamped to my handlebars. Downside is nobody makes a waterproof case for it. I could step "down" to the Galaxy S5, but I like the huge screen. I'd get an iPhone 6 Plus if I were gonna get one.

I had a nice Coleman 0-deg bag that I sold... wish I hadn't. It was quite toasty. Replaced it with a Kelty 20-deg bag that I figured would be fine. Wasn't. Now looking at a Cabelas 0-deg bag once I can scrape up the money for it.

I haven't looked at the 6 yet. Nearly time for my upgrade though...

I have the REI Radiant bag with a silk liner. Supposed to be good down to 19 degrees. I dont think we were ever under 40, but I had to have the mummy bag zipped all the way up in my 3 season tent to not wake up from the cold. Nice bag though.
