After the fact I read the threads on hydrolocking that mentioned that. I couldn't lift it on end to get the water out of the exhaust and it had an extra quart of fluid in the crankcase anyway. Still good to know in case I'm farther afield and/or without cell coverage next time. Of course I have a plug socket in the tool kit now and I'll probably always want the certainty of knowing water is no longer blowing out of the plug holes.

As the week wore on and the motorcycle stayed sitting on the river bank for a variety of reasons (thought the orange key was a key and disabled the real keys while I didn't have an owner's manual to show me the error of my ways, thunderstorms and the river in flood stage) my wife said "Remember this next time you decide to do something similar because now you have knobbies, or more experience on the bike, or the crossing probably isn't as deep and sandy." I think she's got my number!:lol3

    1. Love the rare pirate edition 990!

    2. Thanks for posting pictures of the creek. After the saga we got to read about it is good to see it in photos.

    3. I'm glad those boots are so comfortable, because they are too ugly to keep otherwise!

    It's the 990 Arrr!

The final upshot of that saga was a pesky intermittent FI code 17. I just put in a replacement rear lambda sensor last night and it seems to have banished the last vestige of the whole incident!

Not in Texas they ain't! Down here they're tastefully subdued. :eek1 :huh Not to mention they got my initials on 'em so I can't give 'em away. :lol3

Is this off CR315 south of Llano? It looks like the place that ate my Dakar a couple years ago.

Precisely the place! It's the western crossing in that 1/4 mile section of road and is usually the worse of the two. The "creek" (it's hard to think "creek" when the water is rushing past 100 yards across and 6 feet deep or more) widens out down stream to the east so that crossing tends to be shallower when the water is low and not get as wrecked when the water is high.
