Hey folks first post here, Schuberth SRC modification assistance sought.....

Hey folks, my first post here, my name is Nathan, I'm from the UK and my bike is a 2012 Multistrada 1200.

I have a Schuberth C3 Pro fitted with the SRC system, I would like to tap in to the helmet speaker wires and fit a 3.5mm connector so I connect up my custom moulded ACS communicator ear plugs.

I have done a search and seen that a lovely lady can modify normal Cardo systems but I can't seem to find anything on the SRC??

Has anyone done this and are there any how to guides or photos anywhere? Or if someone is able to explain to me what parts I would need and where to splice in then I'm sure I could do this as I'm able to solder.

Silence may simply indicate that you are the first to try to do this.

SRC is made by Cardo. The speakers on the SRC appeared to be the same ones as the Cardo ones. In theory, any modifications that works on the Cardo systems should also work on the SRC. At 2X the price of a regular Cardo, I just don't foresee many people modifying their SRC!

People have done it but I as have yet been unable to contact them to find out how.

Q1- Can I just fit a male and female jack inline external without opening the box then just unlpug the speakers and plug in my custom moulded plugs?

Q2. If the answer to Q1 is No, then what can I do?

Not a lot of help so far, prolly cuz no one wants to mess with an expensive SRC. My suggestion would be to take it and your buds to a high end car audio installer, have them look at it and give their opinion of what they can do for you. If it sounds good and the price is right, let them do it.

I have emailed all of the Installers in my area, I will report back if I have any joy. Already had one say they won't do it.

Personally, I'd just show up with it in hand and ask. Work it and look like a sad puppy. Seriously though, if you just walk in with it at two or three shops and ask to talk to one of the installation techs, I'm sure one of them will do it.

Do so at your own risk, they ruin, you are out the SRC, as others have said, probably not a good idea. YMMV.

What's not a good idea?

So I have the SRC, and have been thinking about doing something similar for the speakers.

I did sound engineering and frequently make/repair my own components etc. I would be careful with cutting the wires on the SRC. A lot of those very supple wires used in headphones etc can be very hard to solder. However, since they are using two separate wires, hopefully the worst problem for this type of repair won't be in effect. That problem is a lot of these supple wires are made from extremely thin individual strands which are coated with a resin for additional insulation. So, you end up having to 'burn' off that resin without burning up the extremely thin individual strands. I have a pretty high quality soldering station, that I'll have to dial in pretty close and apply heat carefully, including heat sinking above the area I'm trying to de-resin. After that, you can solder them like normal wires, but it can be difficult, and it's very easy to make a bad connection, even if it looks like a good joint, simply because the resin isn't well cleared. I've seen posts online with people using lighters, etc to burn off the resin, and I would suggest DON'T. It may seem strange to think about burning up the copper, but when it's thin and small enough, it will burn/melt away.

Now, if you still want to go that route, I'd strip off a decent amount of the insulation, and wire the individual speaker wires into a standard stereo jack, and then maybe put some heat shrink around the jack and wires for strength.

Personally, I'll probably open the sealed box and see what those wires look like where they come into the PCB (I'm assuming there is a PCB). One it would tell me if I'm dealing with that style of annoying as crap wire (High end sony headphones have the worst) or if I can easily desolder the existing connection and just wire in a jack the way I'd like to.

Simon, I'm very curious if you've had any luck with this..I'm considering doing the exact same mod so I can use my favorite Bose earbuds.

SRC modified, OEM Schuberth Drivers removed and replaced with Koss Porta Pro Drivers.

Lovely.

Easy as pie, 30 mins, no special skills/skinny fingers/specialist tools required.

Difference in sound quality is amazing.
