I did get out this last Sunday. i went to Rabbit Creek, just south of Hemmingway. It was cold but having the right gear made it bearable and the riding was enjoyable. The ground conditions were mixed. Some areas muddy, snowy, sandy, soft dirt, frozen, icy rocks, but for the most part very rideable. As IdahoSkiGuy says, this is a great time to work in the shop. However, with each new mod, I must get in a ride to check it out! I love it!

I've got the day off and would LOVE to ride, but, as luck would have it, I'm sick.

Everybody who's anybody rides Fridays ! Duh. Anyway, I'm headin' down to Dallas tomorrow to pick up a car. I may take the scenic route home North. Went through NM, AZ, UT last time.

As far as the weather, I thought I was going to park my bike for serious maintenance but I've been just knocking out projects one at a time and riding at least a little every day.

Ditchbanker - If you're okay to type, you're okay to ride !! :evil

    :lol2 Oh, my bad.

Have a nice trip, though, and stay safe.

Dude... no colder than sledding?! And thousands of folks sled each winter... :nod

I'd love to convince someone to put 1/2 studs on thier bike and go ride the hardpack with me... but I don't think anyone out there is nutty enough in our area. I know, I know... someone is going to point out that motorcycling is a summer sport. But hundreds of riders north of us disagree.

I've been researching them lately. They'll run about $200-300 for a set-up with the studs included (used), for a good one.

I won't likey do it this year because my KLR will be in pieces by New Years, and will take a while to get back together. But next year, I think I'm going to do it. I've also thought about getting another set of rims for my XT and putting studded tires on the other rims...

I bet you wouldn't have to try as hard as you should have to to convince me...

These are the tires I'm looking at studding. Kenda Trak Master II's.

I really like the idea of these, because you could pull them back out at the end of the season and still use the knobbies for summer riding (or save them for the next winter season). No stud gun requried, and they'll last much longer than ice screws.

The three stooges went out this afternoon, after the HT tech day. Our intention was to go the the desert to stay dry and out of the white stuff. As per usual, though, it turned into a 'Ryan Ride'. within a few miles.

Heath and I took turns testing the soft snow ~ Kyle skipped that part.

It was an inpromptu ride, so nobody had a camera - had to use the phone, so sorry for the crummy quality.

It was 'reasonalbe' traction (for being snow, and all), as long as we stayed where it was less and ankle deep. My little spill was when it got about ankle deep, and I got lazy trying to get out of a rut. :lol2

The studs or ice screws would have been nice today. :nod

    Howdy Joe,

You caught me just in time - literally. I was going to start tearing into my bike tomorrow (the KLR needs surgery). But, since you're done with your test, I'll hold off until Christmas break to pull it apart, so we can go for a ride.

We can go ride Oreanna area - there are miles of gravel roads out there in the desert that are still ride-able this time of the year. Let's set a date, eh?
