Thanks - indeed the 1250GS/A picture was blurred out too. I take your German is ok. If not i can translate when the article is freely available on their website, respecting any copyrights.
Integral crankcase, clutch & transmission: The rumor is that the engine cases will contain the wet clutch and transmission. As opposted to an automotive style dry clutch between the engine and transmission, which is a feature of the current boxer motors cheers, melby
544 with some accessories. My '05 with ABS, an aftermarket can, and full tank weighed 496 (I weighed it myself). BMW's advertised weight of 507 (with a full tank and NO options) was accurate in my case.
I think this is now certain. Getrag who used to produce the tranny for the "old" 1200GS is no longer a supplier for the 1250 GS, at least that's what I read here a while ago, now looking at the pictures confirms the integrated gearbox, but I'm no expert.
Hahaa. If this picture is correct me and MS BMW Owner over BMW Motorrad are in SYNC in the making of a new BMW WeltBümmler. When can i take a test ride. O wait we have no dealer McFury.
Its been a blast to uncover this new bike. If all the chatter we have here is true we are into one hell of a ride when the bike goes on sale. Is there much snow in Canada now ? McFury
I think it will be a good motorcycle, much better than R1200GS? Not sure, I have a 2010 and maybe only using 50% of it's abilities. I'm frank to admit that I want everything new but this time I'll pass and check in again 2 years after introduction. I'm a tallguy and would need the lower pegs, modified screen and seat and I think it will take a while before the ergonomics catch up to the long history of the camhead models so I'm in no rush at all. Snow in Vancouver? No, only on the mountains. +8degrees Celsius today.
Holy mackerel :eek1 No more gear-box-oil-threads? BMW - don't do this to us Wait - this must mean a new dimensions to motor-oil-threads. Not? OK - bring it on [TaSK]
Its time to send out thanks to all the boys in the band. WHO HAD SO LITTLE TO GO WITH IN THE BEGINING. / JUST A SMALL PHOTO. / see pic. But what we have made up is a Motorcycle Many say it will take the heavy weight Championship with a knock out.Round 2. Well Engineering diploma awards are being sent to your homes as we speak. Thank You Thank you. Its been a blast. McFury
Harley's V-Rod has about 30 or more horsepower and weighs over 100 pounds less then their new 103 air cooled touring models and yet I would guess their sales are at least 100 to 1 air cooled. Is BMW making a mistake adding a more complex water cooled engine with more weight? How much power and complexity do we need?
A wethead boxer will usher in an new era for the BMW boxer engine...lower emissions, more power and a quieter engine. What anti-freeze will you use in your new wethead?
def, I agree entirely with you. As a confirmed and life long boxer (and 911) fan, the future is before us. When Porsche went "liquid", all of us "enthusiasts" were appalled, saddened, (fill in the negative). Now, 10 years later, the 996/997, new 991, Boxster,, Cayman have set new benchmarks of performance, mileage, ease of maintenance, and much lower emissions.. What's not to like? I have a Boxster S (2005, 3.2 litre) and it is the best road Porsche of any I have owned in 40 years. I've had some great 911's, but for what a vehicle has to so in today's real world, Porsche has it figured out and BMW will. BTW, I'm looking for a "slightly used" 2010-2012 RT, and I own and love a 2005 R1200 GS, so I get boxers, and am confident that the new "wasserboxers" will be the best yet. Just my .02 worth......
This is because every performance category is irrelevant to playing dressup. The waterhead will be a big seller if the price doesn't get too crazy. Not gonna swap my lemfiddy for one or nothing crazy like that.... yet.
Wow, what type of anti freeze are you using to go with the oil threads......this could be epic !!!!:eek1 Oh, a whole new set of worry beads as well !
I think the Porsche 911 / BMW Boxer comparison is a valid one, especially as there are equally enthusiastic owners on both sides of the car / bike and air / water aisle. The equation Porsche didn't have to contend with is the field servicing/valve adjustment simplicity the GS currently has. Not buying or selling, but the GS kind of made their history with it being a simple, reliable machine that can cross continents. However. The GS also more or less became the SUV of the motorcycle world. And Porsche built that atrocious Cayenne. Both add to the coffers of their companies which occasionally make a very focused (and again enthusiast) vehicle from time to time (HP series bikes, Carrerra, etc etc). The air/water debate will go on for years to come, though I know which side of the matter I fall on. Nothing against progress, but I see the big back end it brought to the 996 and hesitate to see what it brings to BMW's GS lineup. Test rides will tell.
