Picked up a real nice 07 fjr 1300 ae, I noticed the temp gauge is usually at half, but if you sit for a few min, (5) the temp goes up on the gauge. Is that normal? Also the handling is a little different than what I'm used to on my fz1 , I mean as u lean in on a corner it acts like a gyro motion of a bike wheel as you spin it and hold the axel. It wants to rite itself. Tire pressure on spot and no flat spot center ridge. This might be normal, any thoughts? Thanks
What type of tires are on the bike and the associated air pressure? My 2010 was like that with stock tires using spec air pressure, however after switching to Michelin PIlot 2's everything improved dramatically.
I typically run 42psi in the rear tire and 40psi in the front. I can't speak for others, but I can feel a significant difference in the handling when it gets as little as 2psi below those figures. 'fooz
+1 corndog, Might learn how to adjust your suspension too, assuming you haven't touched it. Sounds a little mushy to me.
Tire pressures on the big girl are super important. Any significant drop of more than 2 psi will make her want to sit up in the corners. The PR2's also really help. I switched from Metzlers last year and improved handling ever since the switxh. PTC .
Those of you still in the "shopping" mode, the shop I traded mine in to has listed it: http://www.villagemotorsportsva.com...K2012J6I31I56JAMQ5462R0&veh=54018&pov=2504835 I have no stake in this but the bike is mint and come with most of what we riders would want for sport touring. It's got the OEM heated grip kit, a V46 trunk and PCA Luggage rack. It also has a nice pair of mounts for the GPS/Phone rammounts... They had to put new tires on it, but I know there is "room" to work with them on the price... Mike
I've a Raven black 2006 for sale if anyone's looking.......... http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=760098
From his ad...... ---------- "To make a long story short, my Blue 06 was totaled out and went to the FJR graveyard in the sky. With the insurance settlement I bought a stock, immaculate, silver 06AE, then bought a pristine Raven Black 08 that I couldn't pass up. I've decided I like a standard clutch model more, but I liked the silver bodywork also , so I swapped out the Raven Black onto the 2006 FJR." ---------- .
********** 02/04/12 ******** That's about all I can say right now (don't want to jinx anything that might happen)! But will keep you guys posted. And by the way.. thanks for all of the posts and pictures on this thread you have helped in making my mind up. Rexford
Hey guys! Looks like I've caught the FJR bug. I'm probably going to be looking for one within the next couple months. Atleast, once my current bike sells (F650GS Dakar, in Market). I've done some research on the FJR and just have a couple questions from you FJR gods/goddesses/geniuses! I'm definitely looking for a post-'07 model so i don't deal with the heat issue. I'm sure its not super bad, but I just want an all around newerish bike anyway. What is the "electrical bug" dealing with the recalls on post 07 models? Is there anything you guys with a trained eye would look for, when checking out a used model? I'm possibly looking to spend 6-8k depending on the bike. Is this a decent price range for a good bike or should i save up more? Why are the black cherry/raven colors so damn sexy? Thanks!
Actually. '06~current have the heat issue solved There was an ignition switch and then a wiring harness issue on some bikes. Yamaha offered to fix them all, I never knew anyone who had theirs go bad but some definitely did according to FJR forums. I had both recalls done on mine. Save up a lot more and I'll sell you mine! Seriously, I think you'll find exactly what you're looking for in that price range. Because you have bad taste and subconsciously really want a cobalt blue '06 or '12 model! I wish the dark cherry were darker but the black has been a favorite of mine. They're all nice looking bikes, every color.
whoa whoa whoa...bad taste? Coming from someone with the cobalt blue? haha! I could have sworn i read it was the post '07 models that had the heat redirected. Now i get even one more year of bikes to look out for! Thanks alot for answering my (albeit probably noob questions). cant wait for this damn 650 sold and get on a bike with more than 1 cylinder! I also heard the first gens can get racing stripes that were off centered, gave them 10% more horsepower which created even more heat!
