This forum needs a thread where we can swap or give away parts that may not fit your current need.

The building process often involves repurposing parts from other bikes:evil

If you're not familiar with it, here's how it works. You post up item(s) you don't want anymore and are willing to give away for free or for the cost of shipping, or swap (post up if you are looking for something specific).

The post title should contain whether it is
    1) Free - no cost, nada
    2) COS - Cost of shipping - details handled via pm
    3) Swap - Be as specific as possible as to what you are looking for.

The first person to post up in the thread that they want the item(s) has first right of refusal. You expect nothing in return except that the person you give it to should post something (no matter how small) up in the pay it forward thread.

So that we don't duplicate the "The Good-Karma, Free-Gear Thread" this thread will be limited to bike parts, other items should be posted to the karma thread.

PS. Please for the sake of keeping this going with integrity, please do not claim items just to add them to your junk pile. The whole point of this is to pass along some of the good.

With the ninja getting a refresh, thought I would pass along the well used headlight, custom cut dakar windscreen and bracket to mount it to the headlight.

Hey Beezer, you might be just the man I'm looking for; I need a front axle. I'll send you the dimensions via PM. I'm local to the ANC area.

As for my contribution to the thread, I have at a few Buell parts lying around. I know I have a new primary cover gasket and probably other stuff.

Let's get it rolling. I'll take your light for my klr bike.

I will then offer up a set of ktm triple clamps, I think I have them for either 43 mm forks or 48mm for free, standard 20mm offset

    Is this how it works?

I've got a rear wheel from a SV650, 17 inch, for if you want to match a 3 spoke rear wheel with a strom 3 spoke front wheel. Like jdrocks did on his last ninja build. Post #142

So what I see here is a swap meet for customizing your builds.

How do we set this up so that it doesn't expand into swap meet in general?
For that we already have the Flea Market…

    Suggestions…
    Please.

it would need to be a fleamarket for the things that are not ordinary... not sure how that would work... how do you judge

thats why "I need a xxxxx" makes more sense as a stand alone. it would be for someone looking for an odd part that would be an unusual find or perhaps a re-purposed bit.... a piece that fits an idea for lack of a better way to put it

just tryin to help... I may be full of crap

It seems to me the difference between Sanjoh's idea and a swap meet or the flea market forum is that there is nothing for sale. It's all 'free to a good home' or trade.

It probably wouldn't be the end of the world if 'for sale' items are allowed. Many other forums (regionals, trials, hacks, etc) have their own flea market threads and they seem to work.

Sticking to the original pay-it-forward intent sounds simpler to me. Maybe have different threads if there is demand.

There's probably a lot of stuff that's really only of interest to builders.

My thoughts were to have a thread where we could help each other.

Bike builders tend to end up with spares. And spares for the spares just in case you modify or change something and it is less than you expected, you can try again:D

To keep it from becoming a flea market, the pay it forward, no money exchanging hands, concept helps that. If you want money for an item, it should go in the flea market. Often, bike parts post in the main flea market just get lost.

Being that the pay it forward concept has been integral to the riding community since its inception and the fact that it helped me tremendously with my recent build, I think that this is a fantastic idea for a thread and should be a sticky in the some assembly required subsection. :deal

Ok so I'll go ahead and sticky this.
