Tiger Tales - Dialling in the 800XC for the dirt

Not sure that Danny visits this thread much these days Satrider, especially since he bought an 1190R, but I've got his Tiger. He hasn't so much got fender extensions but made up some brackets to raise the front fender - do you want me to take some close-ups and post them on here? All looks pretty simple...

No problem, Aussie_Trev. I don't yet own a Tiger, but plan to purchase one in the spring. I was simply hoping I could get the specs to the extension adapters he made so I could have a machinist make them up so that I'd have them available first thing when making the Tiger purchase.

Touratech sells a kit and I've read that their length is the max you can do and not hit the beak with the fender on bottom out. It is 15mm.

20 mm on mine and no hits - but I believe that's the limit.

I can confirm that you can bottom out the suspension without breaking the guard when you have the Touratech raisers fitted.

I had the TT kit. Very nice. Typical excellent TT quality. However, shortly after the install, the fender broke at the rear attachment points. Not sure what caused the failure but there was no mud or sticks, etc which stressed the fender. No sign of interference.

TT was great in offering a full refund.

I made some anti brake tabs out of stainless, I have seen that before. Apparently very common to break there.

Exactly where mine broke also - I fixed it in a similar way.

Whoa, I didn't realize that was an issue with these and those TT brackets have been on the bike for over 10k miles.:eek1 Thanks for sharing the pics of the mod gents. That fix is next on the list.

I made a set for mine and then got worried and took them off - a slammed fender out in the hinterlands wouldn't be worth it. I've decided if I'm gonna put full knobbies on and ride in the mud I'm just going to take the fender off. Either way it's liable to pack with mud. We don't have much mud here in so-Cal.

Good solution. I was thinking of something similar but since Triumph replaced my fender, I choose to skip the riser.

Yep, those front fenders aren't very robust. A little bit of mud today cracked mine in four places.

Raising the fender up 3"- 4" would be more of a solution for mud wallowing. Just gotta figure out the clearance issues.

Did it mess with your brake lines at all when the fender came off?

No. I kept an eye on them and they appeared to maintain a safe distance from the tire.

Has anyone installed individual front brake lines on an ABS bike?

Dual lines off of the reservoir = non-ABS bike . On ABS bikes, both the brake line from the brake reservoir and the caliper connect into hard lines which run behind the frame on the right side of the bike to the ABS modulator under the seat.

Looks like some sort of custom 'Y' adapter would have to be made.

Or just have a really long brake line made that still loops over the tire, but all the way up one fork leg, across lower triple tree, and down the other fork leg. No need to over engineer.
