Hi all, This is my first post but I have been trolling around for a while. My father Tomo Cummings was hit head on and killed this morning. We had been starting to plan a ride of the BRP in NC but it looks like that will have to wait now. He was heading to work down one of the busy side roads trying to stay off the highway. An 80 year old lady in an SUV turned left in front of him at an intersection and he hit her head on. He was thrown about 30 feet and was not conscious when bystanders arrived. They tried CPR and there was an ambulance right there and they worked him but he died before he got to the hospital. The local news did a short story and below is the link. I thought that you guys would understand and thats why I joined and posted here. Thanks Devin Cummings http://www.wral.com/news/news_briefs/story/8181215/
I am so very sorry that your dad passed for such a frustrating driving error. Thinking of you and your family.
Thanks everyone. The thing that burns me is just how silly an error it was. I mean come on he was coming right towards her and she didn't even see him. I know accidents happen but maybe (not just an age thing) she should not be driving. I hope that if I ever did anything like this someone would say the same about me. Ok sorry for the rant. I don't have a lot of riding buddies but would still like to do the BRP in NC. Thanks again. Devin
I'm sorry to hear that, Devin I read the story (I live in Raleigh) today and thought about it tonight as I took a short ride. My condolences. I'm sorry that this is your introduction to ADVrider; I hope that you stay and get to know us. edit: ps sorry for the typo'd name. pps: any word on charges?
Devin, my sincerest condolensces to you and your family on you loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Devin, forgive the generic-sounding sympathy for you and your family's loss. All of motorcycldom feels it. Please know that I'll be thinking of your father. -Sounds cheap but we truly mean it.
Thanks everyone this really means a lot to me and my family. Having never been through anything like this it is just a guessing game trying to figure out what to do. My brother just got into town so now I have a little more help with mom. Just looked at the time and it looks to be right at 24 hours since it happened... Thanks for everything, Devin
Sorry for the loss. May the condolences and comments of those who knew your father ease the inevitable feeling of sadness you and your family will experience.
Sorry for your loss. I went through a pretty similar experience Dec 2008. My father was killed by some tweakers out for a joyride. The driver had no license and went to jail the following day for a different crime. He sat there for 2 weeks before requesting a lawyer to give his statement. When a tragedy like this occurs everything seems surreal and never-ending. I can only say that time with family and friends seems to be the only way to help with these things. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family....
