    I've had both.

The Garmin on my 2010 GS & The Nav 4 on my 2013 and I swapped them to see if there was any differences.

The Nav 4 is a little more responsive but the ring-thing does get bumped from time to time, no big deal & easy to correct.

Only reason I went with the Nav 4 was that I really wanted all the stock stuff when I got it & I had the coin.

    Cheers,

    DL

Wondering if the Nav IV operating system can turn a garmin 660 into a Nav IV. Must be some smart hackers here that have worked this out by now?

Them you could just buy the software and use a Garmin 66o ?

Not possible at this time. If you look around there are a couple of Nav IVs available for $525.oo in the different forums.

I like the LED's on the new GS (when they are on with the lo-beams at the same time). Just saw the DRL picture of the new KTM in German Motorrad, compared to the conventional F800GS halogen, not sure which light gives better visibility during daylight. Color difference and light output area.

It is supplied with the bike. Look in the bottom of the riders seat near the front.

Unless you got your bike very, very early, it should have been with the bike, in a slot in the front seat pan.

Mine was delivered with it a over two months ago, as are all others.

I have a pair of Clearwater Darlas that I'd like to install on my GS LC but can't find a decent bracket. What do you mean by your friend using the "stock GS mounting brackets"?

He is either confused or lying. My plug came with the bike stored under the rider's seat. Its red and hard to miss.

Maybe it's been discussed before in this thread. If it has, I can't find it with
the "sucky search". And, I'm not bored enough to read every post in it.

I noticed that the new GS only puts out 5?? watts compared to the old one's
    7?? watts.
I figured that's because of the LED lights so it doesn't need all that extra power.
One thing that always drew me back to BMW was the gadget power. I like lots of
    gadget power!!!

Yes new GS produces less but also consumes less.
I am not sure of the difference in what "remains" for the extra gear (might be almost same).

It's a fair point especially If you don't have the LED lights. Even with the LED lights your probably only saving 40w compared to halogen. I have no idea how much if any they have saved on the electronics front but I would seriously doubt they have save another 100 odd watts to make the systems equal.
To make a proper comparison BMW would need to publish power consumption figures and I can't recall seeing this although I have seen it for the hexheads.
Maybe someone can put a meter on theirs and let us know?
