It's a Hanhart 417ES Flyback Flieger. I love the McQueen ISDT pics but never noticed the watch. Great find! http://heuerville.wordpress.com/tag/steve-mcqueen/
Outstanding. Thanks for that info. I could barely make out the subdials in the photo posted above and was thinking it was some kind of pilot's chrono. From the page above:
Exceptionally cool! I mean, what more could be said about Steve McQueen? The best part? The fact that I bet he knew every word of the story on the watch and wore it for very specific reasons. He had a lot of bling, but didn't flaunt it just to show off- he truly appreciated the things his success afforded him. We need more people in the world like Steve today now more than ever.
I got a new watch... for my iPad. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/emerald-chronometer-hd/id435033000?mt=8 Great fun, and the most beautiful iPad watches I have yet encountered.
Course the jacket is a Barbour International.... This just because... Jane Fonda https://www.advrider.com/advrider-photobucket-images/images/b/bmwstbill_images1.jpg and this: And this... Believe the guy next to Steve is Jay Seibring, killed by the Manson tribe...Mcqueen was supposed to go to the party but didn't at the last minute. Wonder what would have happened if he would have been there. OK enough. bill
Hay I havent worn and wrist watch for years now, I do have a Seiko 6106-8110 that I posted pics of here long back. It needs a service and should probably worn once in a while, but I dont. Anyway, I am thinking of a pocket watch, on a chain type. I buy good quality, reliable equipment (unlike my last watch REF/A/) and am thinking of some thing in the US$300 region. I would be after something simple, classic but robust. Date maybe, second hand if so. Automatic is desirable but not essential. Any suggestions? is my $$$ too low? Coming to the collective wisdom here for fatherly advice..... Thanks Hay Ewe REF/A/ I bought a polar CS300 heart rate meter watch - all up AUD$500 - most dissapointing bit of kit I have bought - EVER.
http://www.calibre11.com/interview-jack-heuer/ Interesting stuff re F1 driver Jo Siffert wholesaling Heuers to the F1 crowd in the '60s, blood group/name engravings etc. "JH: Well the Autavia non-automatic was a watch that the automotive world liked- Jochen Rindt had one- it was the one thing that people in the automotive world liked to carry. And so therefore this one [The Chronomatic Autavia] we made both in white and black, as you know, and so because it was called Autavia, we said to Jo [Siffert] that this is the one that you should wear most of the time, so that was the idea. Jo as you may know from his background, he was a very poor guy and he was a born wheeler and dealer and he would always have a collection of watches, and he would place them with all of his friends on the circuit, between wholesale and retail [prices], and we didnt mind of course because it was in public and so actually the Formula 1 circuit, if you looked around, they all wore a Heuer Chronograph ."
One of the things I love about the Android is they have a buttload of aps that have cool watches on them for on screen clocks. I have a different hing end watch on each page of my tablet.
Even if Steve was there he wouldn't have been the end of Charlie as Charlie wasn't there either. [/history hijack]
DOH! Carry on, I'm obviously too dumb and run my mouth when I don't know what I'm talking about. After being at Manson's cabin before it burned, I just like the thought of that dude not walking the planet. Back on track, I'm going to look into those watch apps for the iPad, that is COOL!
Anyone else notice the name of that rig on that watch above? Rig Safety Award watch... that post was from 2007...
Good to hear Dr. Rock. Glad someone else is putting a SD through it's paces. How is the rubber strap holding up? Still the same cheapo in your picture?
