I just put vectored thrust on my Crack Yak. I'll maiden it this afternoon.

Started with some 1/8" ply and some 1" square, .05 wall aluminum tubing.




3 hours with a drill press...

All bolted together.




Flipped over, looking at the bottom. These bars will be the electrical bus for all the ESC's and battery connectors. One side positive, one negative.




Added another piece of ply to velcro the battery to.




Painted and reassembled. The white arm will be the front, orange is the back.




A $2 salad bowl from WalMart makes it look like a UFO.




750 kv motors and Turnigy 25 amp speed controls.




All the power leads from the ESC's wired in.




An Orange receiver and a KKV2 multi-rotor control board.




And yes, it flies!! I had to include retracts, just for fun.




And here's a quick video, now that I have it fairly well sorted out. The $2 salad bowl has been replaced by a slightly larger $4 salad bowl. It took quite a few flights to get the control board dialed in just right. There are menus with several settings for the gyro gain on each axis. Tweak, fly, tweak, fly, etc etc.

The main issue now is that with 6 motors turning, it burns through a 4000 mah battery pack in about 4 minutes. I have some different props on order to experiment with that should help. It's set up to run two batteries in parallel, which will also help, but that means carrying more weight.

Very cool...it was for the longest time here just too hot to fly, now it is starting to cool off but was a little windy.

I do have a half built Tamiya sand scorcher on the kitchen table, but lack some paint to finish it off. Local hobby store ticked me off, so a tower order is in my future for some paint.

I need to get these two guys in the air....only thing I have flown lately...about a month ago is the Radion....the sail plane is fun, but I need to learn to take a lawn chair out with me....I get tired of standing.

Wait, what? Kingsville has a local hobby shop?

Scored this at a thrift store for $15. Now i need to figure out what motor, radio, batteries, etc... Any suggestions?

Control Throw:

Ailerons - 40 degree 15mm up and down
Elevator - 35 degree 28mm up and down
Rudder - 35 degree 80mm up and down

Added some stickerage to the SC today.

This is the majority of what I don't have in storeage or any of the mountain of little fan-fold-foam foamies i've made. hah

Dad started me flying control line at 10. we started R/C at 13. im 29 now so... :)

I see allot of planes & trucks / cars in this thread but, I just got into Fast Electric Boats and it's a scream. The boat I have is an Aquacraft Revolt 30. It is a ready to run type and was fully assembled. Out of the box it hit 35 mph. This may not sound fast but, with a few adjustments and prop swaps I've gotten it to 47.8 mph.







The picture above shows the Velocity RC GPS showing 46.6mph. I did hit 47.8 but, the picture wasn't in focus.

Boats are cool, even had a small one myself; Pro Boat Mini-V. Just got bored with it. Should I decided to get back into, I would go with a bigger boat. Probably from these guys - http://www.aeromarinerc.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=53&vmcchk=1&Itemid=53 - who are about 30 minutes away.

A guy I know dropped by the shop and asked me if I wanted to look at some planes he wanted to sell, sure I said. Being a small electric flyer I was really not that interested, all too big for me. Then he said $200.00 for the whole lot, ok what the hell.

At first I was going to peddle the big Edge, but decided to build it. If it never fly's It does look pretty good hanging from the shop wall.

Well I would say that stuff is certainly worth more than $200!

One of these days I'm going to buy an Edge and crash it.

I've seen one of those Mr Mulligans fineshed out.

Speaking of old school kits, I'm still on the search for the illusive .60 sized Midwest Super Hots, in the event anyone has one sitting on the shelf, unopened/unbuilt...

that's my spare kit. the original one was without the pre-made cowl so i bought a partial kit with it. the completed kit is in the rafters in the barn. it weighs 20lbs wet, couldn't get out of it's way if it had too. about a 35mph top speed. very relaxing...


aint seen a hots in years. grab the plans & scratch it. that's where all the good kits have gone anyways :\

Actually, I do have a set of plans, from the RCM plans service.
I was just hoping to find a kit, sometime, to add to the collection.
I want a Morrissey Bravo, but all the kits are going for a premium.

I'll ship it out and you can do it for me.....
