I guess the glass is half full. Glad you are OK and the bike survived without major damage. Cheers and good luck.
Glad you are okay bro. That exact same thing happened to me this morning...which is why I was reading this thread. Glad you and me both had gear on. Be safe everyone!
Wow! That was a weird crash. No front brake. Were you on the rear brake? You didn't have much lean angle for that crash...if no brakes, that's a weird crash.
Just watched the video with my 9 year old daughter. :eek1 She noted that you appear to have the exact same riding gear as I do, and she knows that I NEVER get on my bike without it. So she knew you were going to be ok. Cool to see your kids in the video when you took your helmet off inside. My daughter made a comment that you wear all the right gear because you have kids and you are smart, got me thinking that is likely the best reason to wear the gear ALL THE TIME. Not even half a block from home you needed your gear, glad you had it. I damn near did the same thing last spring on my ZX14, too much right hand for the tire temp! That was a good wake for me, and thankfully not as expensive as yours. Glad you are ok, bikes can be fixed even thought it is a total PITA. OP
At least you didn't have far to travel to get the bike back home It was 32F when I took a short trip to the store this morning - I was worried about the exact same thing happening to me.
Thanks everyone for your kind words of support. I did a walk around the next day and came to the conclusion that a combination of two things happened. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> 1. Too much right hand action for the cold temps.<o></o> 2. As the back end was beginning to swing out, my back tire ran over one of these manhole covers which at 32F might as well have been a patch of ice, leaving no chance to recover the slide. <o></o> That's all I can think of. Oh well, parts are on order and I live to ride another day. <o></o>
Well it could have gone worse, which today we recover and learn from this.. This is what i said on my nap with the pavement. Best to you and love that color bike.. Gear helps, yes? Take care
how much rash you can pick up on the most minor get-off? They just weren't made for nappin', I'll tell ya. Bad mustard, Canadian! Glad you're ok: picked up some street cred for your gear and a cheap lesson. Just a thought -- looking at your vid, you're pretty deep into the slide before you find that manhole cover. I'm thinking it was just a sweet combo of cold/cold/throttle. C'est la vie, if you live, which you did. Be well.
Don't feel bad man. I did EXACTLY THAT on my Buell this last January. Went around the corner at the end of my street as I had a million times before. Back end goes, bike lands on my foot, 180's on its swingarm, sends me sliding across the pavement on my back for a good ten feet. Collapsed handlebars, mangled swingarm, scratches in my frame, broken foot peg, shattered throttle sleeve. My foot still doesn't work right to this day and hurts at random times. +1 on the cold street and cold tires are a bad mixture.
