Hi everyone. This is a question pertaining to a shock rebuild/recondition, so am looking at RoostMaster, beechum and Kenno. After reading from you guys how easy it was, and seeing how quickly Roost tore his shock apart I thought I'd give it a go and at least put some clean oil in there. So got it all off, took the spring off and disconnected the reservoir and main body (old school '88 shock with a tube between them). Removed circlips from both, but can't get either the reservoir bladder (nothing to grab?) or the shaft in the main shock out? Please see photo. It says just to tap with a mallet, but I've done that and nothing is happening. Thought I'd double check the procedure before I continue bashing away. Also check out the oil! Cheers, John
Pry that seal up the shaft and push the center down and you will see a small wire clip (item # 21) that you will have to pry out. That will free up the insides to come out of the body. Same for the reservoir.
Geoff, this mod does not require a longer cable. I have 4 1/2" of rise on my bars so I need a longer cable. You do need to grind off the original mount for this to fit. It's made to be a more secure perch after the OEM one gets worn out or broken.
The Xr 600/650 tank is different from the XR 250 tank. The 250 tank is 1/2 gallon smaller and the brackets are slightly different. I found this out when i put an 250 tank on my 600.
Just as Steve said, I'll post pics when I get home tonight, nothing needs to be forced !. If you want, I have and '88 Manual and can copy the Rear Suspension section and post it to ya, I think you'll need it to re-assemble :eek1(PM an address). I know the local KTM dealer, took a 1 litre bottle to him and he filled it with GHEN-YOU-WHINE White Power rear shock oil for $20.... Roost.

As Steve pointed out AND it's etched on the part too this item, as well as many other cool things come from: XR's only. I've done business with them for quite a while now. They are a great company and have always done me right. When you do go to their website you may want to hide your credit card you WILL see quite a bit of must have items.
Lol, have already checked the website and found many items I would like, being in. Au I need to buy a few items to make postage worthwhile :-D
