Who's repping the ADV sticker on national TV? NBC sports's in-race reporter fails atgatt, but his driver's an inmate!
Spotted another... can't really see with my cell-phone-pic of the TV, but that's an ADV sticker on the pannier.
I don't know about the riders, but another inmate I know was the bass player for the concert in Telluride town park after the first stage. If he would only look up when he played, he would have seen us!
There was a clip showing the leader and a V-strom crept into the picture. The picture pixelated and disintegrated. I was kind of surprised that my TV hated V-stroms so much.
Must be a bunch of volunteers working the race. If you haven't done it, it's a real hoot!! Up close and personal with the best bicycle racers in the world!
I volunteered to be a Marshal for that race last year in Vail. It was a blast. I don't know if they asked for volunteers again this year. I didn't see a thread it the Rockies section.
I saw a couple of Vstroms, a couple of BMW GSs, and at least one Ducati Multi-Strada while I was watching stage 2 yesterday. Those were the only ADV stickers I noticed, but I didn't actually start watching for them until I saw the in-race reporter.. I've got Stage 3 set to TiVo... I'll watch when I get home and see if I can pick some out. If anyone figures out who it is driving around the in-race reporter, we need to over-night him a FYYFF sticker for his helmet, stat!
Friday they'll be blasting right across my front yard on the Ave. Its great that the city has done a bunch of paving up and down the west side and downtown. It takes the biggest bicycle race in the country to get anything done to our badly neglected streets.
I was there too - what a blast. I started emailing Ed (Dailey, the safety/moto coordinator) back in April I think about working it again this year, but eventually turned out they didn't need any extras this year. Not surprising since they have a cadre of serious riders and the TT is short this year with a finish right next to the start. I need to try and find GSDave when they come through Boulder and find out how to become a real official for the future.
That is me piloting the reporter this week with an ADV sticker on my helmet. I'm not so sure that NBC would appreciate the humor in me putting a FYYFF sticker in there! As GS Dave said, most of the bikes are BMWs; lots of 1200GSs / GSAs plus RTs and a sprinkling of other brands. There's not a brand requirement but certain bike models do better at this type of work than others. Regardless of the brand, all the bikes are expected to be in tip-top condition and sparkling clean every day. A fair number of us are USA Cycling Officials but quite a few are not. We have a lot of active and retired LEO motor officers on the crew as well. GS Dave is a higher level official than I am with a lot more experience and thus he lands the coveted job of Time Board Officiating on this race. The rest of us who work as Marshals, Photo-Motos and TV Motos are so far down on the totem pole we're self-proclaimed "Skooter Trash". RobStar
Time Board might be good, but I think you got the best... getting to stay with the breakway group and having the TV exposure! You should suggest to the in-race reporter to do a piece about the motorcycle support. The briefly talked about Tommy Danielson's dad piloting the bright yellow mutual support bike from Mavic during stage 3, but more info on the motorcycles would probably be fun for everyone, not just the moto community! Also, it must have been insane riding through that mess of people on the top of Independence pass! That was narrow!
Word out to the KTM rider in the red Rudy jacket today who infiltrated the caravan with a "Media Parking" sticker: The police have your tag number and will arrest you on-site and impound your bike if you show up again! What an idiot!
Did he do anything to disrupt the race? I'm watching yesterday's stage on the TiVo, but maybe I'll skip to today to see if I can spot him...
Rob... how does one get started in such an illustrious career as a moto escort? Next year would be fun.
