I appreciate the help, I'll grab some of the plugs and try all of the suggestions on in the shop.. I just got the bike and was taking it apart in the garage to make sure I was familiar with how things went together before the big ride this weekend. I didn't want to be that guy who screwed it up for everyone else. I'll stock up on the plugs and then I won't need them! Thanks!
I have an 08 with FI so the routine to pull the tank is close the crossovers and pull the hose off the side you choose. Like the manual suggests, disconnect the 90 degree elbow first and swing it out of the way to get to the red disconnect which will have some pressure....sometime more than others..don't pull the outer (white) disconnect at the pump!!! Anyway, the tank on and off routine is an ongoing thing right now with trying to get my TrailTech Vapor working right. My question goes out to those who have installed one. I posted awhile back with questions and read through the speedo thread. The speedo works fine off the stock cable and pickup. The tach is bouncing. I tried the recommended 5 wraps on the spark plug wire down to 1 wrap, no change. Moved the ground to battery, no luck. Isolated the pickup wire away from coil.....tank on and tank off....you know the drill....ideas anyone.... thanks
Note on putting the gas tank back on..... ..... If you put the one-way diaphragm valve on the vent hose the WRONG one-way, your bike will only run for about 3 minutes before starving for fuel.... Then you sit there like a tard fiddle fuking around for a few minutes.... ... Then it will crank and ride for a few miles.... .. Then die again.... :huh
In the Kootenay mountains in BC Canada last weekend. A perfect moment on my '07 TE610: <iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/wWrHSTPPTyM?list=UU13lCeg954yUZNOf8SJ8oiA&hl=en_US" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" width="560"></iframe>
Just curious... what graphic do you have on your parachute? I mean, you must have had a safety parachute, right? A right-hand turn looked to have been a doozy!!! Great footage!
Regarding the petcocks, I've had two of them fail now. I'm going to make my own flange plates and put in a 1/4" npt to 90 barb coupling with shut offs. I did the same thing when I tapped the fuel pump manifold to get rid of the silly plastic 90's a few years ago. Now the crossover failed so I have to keep it closed at the moment which limits the fuel. It's a touch pricey ($24 per petcock and whatever it takes to make the flange) but I'll be able to just click and pull the tank. I'll do the same thing for the 950SE so that will be easier too. I just hate gas spilling whenever I have to pull a fuel line
I think the camera (Contour HD) makes it look like a sharper drop off than it really was. Either way it was a hell of a ride. I have done most of the big passes in Colorado and ridden the Moab region in Utah, all great areas to ride, but so is the stuff we have in BC & Alberta here in Canada. Looking forward to getting back up on that ridge next season.
Some may remember the debate about running the TE with a capacitor.. I picked up a cheap surplus oscilloscope. I probed the system at the positive battery terminal. First, the battery is connected, then just the capacitor and finally the capacitor gets disconnected. You can see there's no built in filtering, the waveform goes to zero with each pole of the stator. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1x_wkLUJAw&feature=share&list=UU4fmA3FG8zpLjmhzRk8hi3g
Good luck! I believe that a one week window before leaving on an excursion is plenty of time. Unless you screw it up.
The trick is to work from front to back and do both sides as you go. That's how I did it and I've had to do it a couple of times ( denser foam ). Pull it tight but not so tight it makes waves in the foam. I also sprayed the seat pan with adhesive. I've logged lots of very hard miles on this and I love it! don't forget to put the plastic thing on this and here too here's a back shot it really isn't hard, just take your time and keep checking to make sure it's even.
I'd have better luck translating Chinese than understanding that. So what are you say? They're bad stock or bad with the capacitor? Or just leave it alone like I have for the last 7500 trouble free miles?
Looking back it kinda sounds like I'm trying to help an impotent guy work through his problem and put a rubber on. I just read it to my wife and she laughed too. The JD tuner sticker does look like the gay flag! They should've picked better colors!
