Rode "The Snake" And "Back of the Dragon" Ran into LadyDraco's husband and a Valk rider from Texas in Tazewell and it was suggested to ride north on 16 into WV and loop back on 52. So me and my gal went to "War" ;-) Stayed at Floyd, VA for 2 days and finished the trip by riding back down the BRP to 58 and back home. We had a blast and am very happy with my new Valk. It was awesome to pull around a steep mountain switchback with the engine smoothly turning 1200 rpms, then pulling right up the hill.
Well it's 2013 !! Time for the desktop.. Can you believe it !! ??? We wish everyone a safe and wonderful New riding season.. And now here is your January Calendar... I would like to thank donaldcc .. My local Honda dealer has a 97 tourer for sale. Has some god awful fairing on it. Kind of a half moon around the headlight with a blade type windshield. Been looking but can't seem to find a decent oem windshield. Anyone have a source for those original Honda Tourer windshields?
I like the clearviewshields They are the same curve/shape as OEM just a little thicker .. And instead of the O around the head light that oem has, they have a upside down U .. Makes it way easier to remove when you have Cobra driving lights. But you'd need the OEM hardware for mounting...
WOW can you believe it's February !! :eek1 As for winter it's always a tuff month... Thank goodness it's shorter.. I really liked this photo of a BumbleBee Valk...I have had it in my folder for a long time .. The photo reminds me of better days yet to come for riding.... Link to the calendars.. February Calendar !!
Sorry I'm late with this... And ya'll know what that means Calendar time... It has come in like a Lion here in SWVA... I would like to thank Our own FStop for sending me this great photo.. It's of the Grape Town School built in 1884 and served the community until 1949. One Teacher, Seven Grades. It is near Luckenbach, Texas in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. Thank You Charlie... He does take some amazing photos and this is a pretty out of the way place, but with where he lives, he has some great back roads to play on. A little chilly riding into work today at 32, but it's supposed to warm to almost 60 today. Texas riding weather is definitely here!
Yes he does... But then again that is what he does for a living.. He is involved in making Commercials... His photos are always crisp and clear... I very seldom have to re touch his shots... Other then taking out trash or wires...
It's time for new tires on my Interstate. I'm looking for a lift adapter if someone has one to spare (buy, borrow, rent for barley-pops).
After reading this thread and being in the "Get a different Bike" mood, I rode 120 miles south to test ride a 2003 Valkyrie. I was sorely disappointed:huh I knew low speed handling would be a bit ponderous, but it was unrideable. I almost dumped it several times on the test ride. The front end would tuck in slow speed turns. The motor was a revelation. All in all it was a sad ride home as I was expecting to be on the Valkyrie. I do hope there was something wrong about the bike and I am simply missing the point.
The only things I could think was wrong with the 03 .. Was rear car tire ? .. Or the air pressure was way off ... Some people never check it .. Believe it or not... HB said that his can do slow U turns nice and tight... NO tuck in on his Valks... But he no longer runs a CT on his ... :eek1 Sorry your test ride sucked... Try it again sometime...
I believe they were the OEM tires, it was not a car tire. It was at a dealership, but maybe they didn't check the pressure before the test ride. I am pretty bummed I didn't like it.
As I said some people never check the tires.. And yes even at dealerships... And if they where Dunlop (OEM) They suck any way.. I hope you give one another chance.. They really are great bikes...
I'll bet it also felt a bit like it was "plowing" when you went around corners. If so, this is almost certainly an issue with the front tire pressure - the tire will flex too much, which affects steering authority, and makes low-speed turns difficult to negotiate. For my ride I have the front tire at ~41 psi - if the seller had it at the 32 psi listed on the tire, then that's probably the problem.
This months calendar is of Valkyries and The Battleship Texas... Photo taken by me. This year ... Link to the calendar.. May Calendar Now for a little History About this very cool and old ship.... Ordered: 24 June 1910 Awarded: 17 December 1910 Builder:Newport News Shipbuilding Company Cost:$5,830,000 ($144 million in today's dollars) (excluding armor and armament) Laid down: 17 April 1911 Launched: 18 May 1912 Commissioned: 12 March 1914 Decommissioned: 21 April 1948 Struck: 30 April 1948 Honors and awards:5 Battle Stars Displacement: 27,000 long tons (27,000 t) (design) Length: 573 ft (175 m) Beam: 95 ft 3 in (29.03 m) Speed: (24 mph; 39 km/h) Complemen 1,048 +/- 5 officers and men USS Texas (BB-35), the second ship of the United States Navy named in honor of the U.S. state of Texas, is a New York-class battleship. The ship was launched on 18 May 1912 and commissioned on 12 March 1914. Soon after her commissioning, Texas saw action in Mexican waters following the "Tampico Incident" and made numerous sorties into the North Sea during World War I. When the United States formally entered World War II in 1941, Texas escorted war convoys across the Atlantic, and later shelled Axis-held beaches for the North African campaign and the Normandy Landings before being transferred to the Pacific Theater late in 1944 to provide naval gunfire support during the Battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Texas was decommissioned in 1948, having earned a total of five battle stars for service in World War II, and is presently a museum ship near Houston, Texas. Among the world's remaining battleships Texas is notable for being the only remaining dreadnought battleship, though she is not the oldest surviving battleship; Mikasa, a pre-dreadnought battleship ordered in 1898, is older than Texas. She is also noteworthy for being one of only six remaining ships to have served in both World Wars. Among US-built battleships, Texas is notable for her sizable number of firsts: the first US battleship to mount anti-aircraft guns, the first US ship to control gunfire with directors and range-keepers (analog forerunners of today's computers), the first US battleship to launch an aircraft, one of the first to receive the CXAM-1 version of CXAM production radar in the US Navy, the first US battleship to become a permanent museum ship, and the first battleship declared to be a US National Historic Landmark.
