Bob (MNCherry) and his family happened to be in Huntington Beach yesterday trying to cool off and stopped by for a little catching up. Very glad to report that Bob's leg looks really good and has healed up nicely. Best of all is he seems to be in very good spirits and moving forward.

Looks like surfing might be in his and the family's future. :clap

Looks like you had a great ride! The coast is awesome, really liked the fog pictures. let me know if you ever want to do the West side of the Sierra's (Bakerfield to Fresno my backyard). Nice fireroads, meadows, fire lookouts, vista's 40% paved 60% dirt.

That sounds like a nice invitation ... If you have some tracks, maybe you can put together a nice weekend ride some of us LA / OC guys could come up for.

    Yes,

I have lots of tracks, I am a GPS and Google Earth hound. I want to do a 2 or 3 day ride and do the Sierra highlights. I would like to start in east Bakersfield get on the Rancheria road go North stay in Exeter that night. Then head North again and do the Hume lake area get across the Kings River and get to Shaver Lake that evening. Then go towards Yosemite the next. It would be an Epic ride.

I am running a KTM 450 exc, There are some really cool single track trails we can do and fire roads that run in the same general direction, but it looks like a lot of your group ismore GS/Adventure style riding?

Yeah, got one of those. It's called a Tiger 800XC.
    Then I got a Husky TE630.
    And a WR250F with a plate.
    And a KTM250XCFW with a greenstickie.

30 years in the dirt and 12 on the street.
    Pick yer poison.

I'd still like to camp by a lake though, so I can catch the eve or early bite. Or a good stream. :D

The husky and tiger are setup for camping off the bike. The husky is obviously better for tougher than groomed dirt roads.

Hume lake is ho-hum. Have fished it a couple of times and it was dead. You have to tube that one. I actually like streams a little better. You can walk them. If a pool isn't producing you can hike up or down.

I was going to do a fall eastern sierra trip but could easily be talked into a western trip. I'll bet Bigtodd and Jnyrav would come along as well.

We should start a new thread instead of jacking our RR.

    Hey NSFW,

Do you have a recommend day-trip loop from OC to Los Padres National Park and back. I saw one of your GPS readings and it seems like a great ride. Especially at this time of year, I'm going to try and stay away from the desert.

what kind of bike you're riding and skill level so i can direct you to what will suit you best and enjoy the ride as well.

if you're on a street bike, sorry i don't have a good route from oc. but once you're on your way north, go to to ojai via the 5 north, and 126 east (then to santa paula to ojai, take hw 33 north to hw 58, get gas in maricopa. from the 58, head out to 101 north, then hw 46 west which will take you south of cambria. once you're on the coast highway, continue north and you're going to love it.

take a late lunch at lucia lodge, grab a patio table and enjoy the view.

and just several miles north, check out julia pfeiffer park

I rode up Saturday morning to meet the guys at Crab Flats by way of SR-330:

We ended up on a narrow trail off of 2N08 where we were stopped by a closed gate and had to turn around:

Eric doing the same. I've got a video:

Sunday, Slugdad and I left ahead of the others. Since we were heading to OC, we slabbed it down SR-18:

I remember going down a trail with Jim and found the trail head off of SR-18. Soon we were treated to a view of San Bernardino:

Turns out the trail is 2N40. It was loose and rocky in places and felt narrow. I was going way too slow up a hill and I lost the front tire in a rutt and dumped the KLR :( Bill has pix.
