Just an update folks. I finally had a chance to sort through my junk mail, and a message from Paul at HDB had been sitting in there for two days, so he had gotten back to me right away, and is shipping the replacement post haste.

    Marks for customer service...:thumb

Ouch - sorry to see the damage to your crankcase. Just curious, what brand of chain was that on there? My original chain (CZ I think) snapped like that after only 4,000 miles.

    Mine has 3844 miles...

Funny thing is I ordered new chain and sprockets last week.

I think it's stamped CZ also.

Be interesting to see if the factory put the same POS chain on the TE630. I have seen multiple reports now of very early chain failures with the stock CZ unit. Anyone out there still on the original chain... consider yourself warned.

Yup,,, I knew I was on borrowed time. Especially with racing the bike and the high stress of ice riding. :nono

Hmm, looks like I have two stock chains to weld into spiders or some other yard art............

I'm looking to make my own solution that, like many other types of case savers, incorporates the upper chain roller mount. I don't think the mount points on the case will necessarily hold in a chain break situation. On the other hand broken mount points are still better than a fragged clutch actuator housing.

I think it's about $300, but to put that in perspective, I broke my stock cable, so I had to buy a new one and a spare and that was like 150. $300 "fixes" the issue.

    Sorry you guys had trouble.

I will sacrifice the small plastic chain cover in order to protect the case.

    Just a couple of thoughts.

I replace stock chains on all bikes at first oil change.

    I replace good chains around 2,000 - 3,000 miles.

Call it silly, I've never had a chain related failure. I carry extra master links primarily for other people.

Again, sorry you guys had the problem.

Since we're talking chains, I just replaced the inner plastic guide on the bottom chain guide @ 5k miles.

Then I did a 1,200 mile trip to Cabo, and the thing looks just as worn our as before. putting a few gouges in the Aluminium

How often do you guys change that? Or do you leave it kinda worn away at front?

Hey Debandi - have you tried that casesaver with a 16T sprocket? Wondering about clearances.

No sir. I'm running a 15t. On #3 on the front sprocket.

It's a very tight fit with the 15t.

Did you try getting the stock plastic cover to work with the case saver?

    Hoder.

I looked at it and decided to leave it open. It can be done with some time and a dremel moto tool. The cover will need some small modifications.

You're right, if this thing outlasts 2 or 3 stock cables, it's probably worth it. Maybe even just for peace of mind...

Plus it's longer and fits risers better, plus you don't have to carry the spare. And lastly it does make the pull a little easier though not as much as I'd hoped. I'm sold on one, I just need some $$
