I keep wondering where the heck am I going to hold enough gas for the 200 mile range that John says we need WITHOUT spending $800 on a safari front tank (that's a pain to remove and eliminates the tank bag position). I don't have panier racks (use a GL bag) and I've got a small tail rack for a 1 gal rotopax, but that doesn't work with the GL bag on. If I can get a 1 gal bladder on top of my GL that makes 160 miles range. I could squeeze a couple bottles on/in the bag for another 20 miles and ride very conservatively that day (as I'm sure many will be too). What are you 690 riders doing?

John, are we really stretching our range to 200 miles? What are the other long days' ranges?

Maybe you could convince some of your fellow riders to share some fuel with you. ;)

If all goes as planned and I'm on a KLR650 I have a 10 Gallon tank to put onto it. :rofl I guess I will become the fueling tanker. Mileage is quoted at 450 to 500 per tank.

Sweet! I'm putting my 2 gal tank back on. Actually I can carry 5g but it's in 3 places. Been looking for a Safari 4g tank but haven't lucked up on a used deal anywhere.

10 gallons of gas! that's 65 lbs on top of your bike, it's going to take 2 men and a boy to pick that KLR back up again if you tip over. :eek1
Gas does get very expensive on the trail if somebody runs out. :lol3

    Paid and in!

Now if I can just stop day dreaming about this ride and get back to work maybe I'll still have a job when the ride starts.

tragedy struck last week. consequently, not only did I loose almost all my possessions in a house fire, but I also sliced my right index finger tendon . 6-8 weeks before recovery.

I am unfortunately out for most of this season

    enjoy

really sorry to hear that, Jeff. I went through the same thing back in '06 and it was very depressing. I hope you feel better soon and recovery is quicker than estimated.
