Nice run yesterday down to west Cork and Kerry. A cold start with temperatures at zero C , but dry which is the main thing. Caught a ferry across the Shannon from Clare to Kerry , main roads down to Killarney and then through Killarney National Park, over Molls Gap into Kenmare. Over the mountains to Glengariff, Adrigole,Healy Pass,Black Valley and Gap of Dunloe and home . 340 kilometres and 6 hours in the saddle on the go, so that says a bit about the roads! Anyway a few pics. Outside Killarney. Ladys View, so called because Queen Victoria and her ladies in waiting supposedly stopped there to admire the view in the 1890s Some of the colourful shops in Kenmare. Some nice twisties on the Healy Pass. Unfortunately the pump wasn't dispensing Murphys Stout, I checked. Top of the Healy Pass looking down onto the Kerry side.Glenmore Lake. Uragh megolithic stone circle with Lake Inchquin in the background. Very moody and inpressive to think of humans erecting this thousands and thousands of years ago. My mascot lamb watching his cousins. Gap of Dunloeand again below.
Very nice. My wife took me there this past fall for a two week ramble and while it was fun, the whole time I was wishing I had a bike.
Great post....love Ireland.....my wife took over for a couple of weeks too a few years ago and I wish I had a bike. You're south of Indy......I'm south of Indy.......and you reference Tolkien, Stevie Freakin Ray Vaughn and Einstein in your signature line. Good lord man I feel like I need to buy you a beer.
11 years ago we honeymooned in that part of Ireland. Fantastic time. Thanks for showing the photos When we were at lady's view you could not see more then 2 meters past the edge the fog and rain was so thick.
Thanks. The wife wants to go back again. (she doesn't ride) so I told her next time i do it on a bike. Just a little incentive.
Nice pics. Those parts of Kerry are some of my favourite biking roads in the country! We're planning a trip down to the Iveragh Peninsula sometime this summer, when the weather warms up a bit. Some of those roads inside the 'ring of kerry' are great fun, almost deserted except for a few wandering sheep ☺
There's more in the Connemara (County Galway), they're all over the place wandering about. We have done a couple of blog posts with short videos from our travels: http://rtbiketour.com/connacht-ireland/ http://rtbiketour.com/dingle-ireland/
