The math will be will be theoretical . Doesn't mean the bike can pull it. Check the internal gear ratios in their system. I've seen some that were wrong. If so then enter your own and save them for future use.
we'll see....... theories, shmearies, berrys. I will find out soon enough reality. I will just be glad to have actual figures for this bike based on the GPS and Vapor. Should be able to figure it out with no more then 2-3 rear sprockets.
Not exactly "adventure", but close enough Fully equiped with rallye instruments and a big ass KTM 30L tank... Me after the first test ride today: Bikes will be sent to the UAE this Tuesday... More infos about the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge in my signature below!
I've been lurking at this thread today, because I had this idea of converting this bike into an adv. My XL600V can do well over 100k miles without any engine problem, but cant take it where a WR can, so I'm watching!!! It may become my other bike!!! Great setup shattat! I'm reading your story!
so how about some details on the bikes transmission ratios stock or different. What sprockets you running and what speeds are you getting at what RPM. What wind shield lights etc. are you using. Cush hubs....running pavement or dirt only. Seat, etc. would be nice. Not wanting a race bike that I rebuild every week or two, so hopeing to pick some parts up as to how they work.
the newer bikes run different ratios to the older steel frame models. Im pretty sure they are geared longer. where the 06 came out stock 14/50 the 08 came with 13/50 stock 06 14/50 tops out a little under 80. 15/50 takes you to 90 on the gps.
I can testify on the durability of the WR engine. I owned an 2001 WR250F that I rode for almost 6 years, only one valve check and they were just barely out of spec. I prided myself on not taking care of my WR and watching all the perfect groomed Hondas fail at the same time. It had about 20k miles on it. I sold it to a friend, he swamped it and never bothered to clean the mud out of the air box or carb, a week later kabam!
Steveo....just picked up a used 6.6 acerbis. It has a metal bracket on one side, but not the other. These are/should be mounted on the rubber mounts just in front of the petcocks. What is that bracket and do I need both of them, one, or neither. What a freaking beast for a tank. One more project to get started on!!!!!
Rally Management services have just started selling the spanish JVO Racing kit ... including a half kit ... the front half of the bike including 20 litres (5.25 gallons) of fuel and the rally fairing http://www.rallymanagementservices.com/motoyamaha.html
Ok here are the results of the 15t front. Bolted right on with minimal but clearance on the case guard. Must have not remembered correctly at the 9k speed with the stock 14t front. I stopped every time today and wrote them down this time. 6k = 56mph 7k = 65mph 8k = 73mph 9k = 81mph Will put the 47t rear on soon. The rear tire is worn out, so maybe a mile or so different with a new tire. It looks like I doubt I can get to my target cruise speed with a reasonably useable sprocket. Will see how much of a change the 47 gives me and I should know where to go with the next rear sprocket.
probably will. I put a 140 rear on my WR426, it lightly rubbed on my acerbis rear auxilary gas tank, but it shouldn't be an issue without that tank.
My bike is currently in for a couple of maintenance jobbies... I had the timing chain done and the forks rebuilt. The bike has done 70hours since the last rebuilt, when should I look at the rings?
Just turned my 04 WR450F from this: to this: Turn signals, brake light, horn et all.. Can't afford EBC 320mm rotor just yet, but Revloc Dyna Ring is pretty nice setup..
Just picked up an '05 WR450. It has about 180 hours on it. I want to get it on the road and enjoy riding it as soon as possible. I did a little test ride around the block and it appears to run great. Anything specifically I should check for besides changing the oil and checking the valves? Also, anywhere to look where the price gets any better than the high $300's for the light kits to get it inspected in new York? I guess some how the previous owner was able to plate the thing in Mass and NH.... with out any of that fancy stuff .
