I've seen more snow in California than anywhere else in my life! 1000" 2 years ago at Northstar. And I agree it takes A LOT to get a Sube stuck, an ex of mine had a '95 legacy wagon and I could drive that car in 6"+ of wet Massachusetts snow with all season tires. I've never heard of that type of interlock on the Subie Auto though, the new Forester coming out in March will have a CVT that I highly doubt will have that odd interlock.
Not me, when he goes over the bridge and passes the guys in the red shirts, I was one of them. I went to cheer on a couple of inmates who were racing and ended up volunteering to work a checkpoint. I just remember seeing this beautiful brand new car that I would never be able to abuse like the driver was doing. What the video doesn't really show is how steep and rough that road is. Crazy.
It's fantastic to see a company make a real sports car again. Porsche and BMW have lost their way in this, sadly. Thus why I own an older 911. Nice car and congrats on the purchase! Cheers, James
I snapped a bad cell phone pic of the first one i ve seen. Great looking cars ! Then I read its really a scion ? Please tell me the report was wrong !!! Pic Yes, I got my pos toyota out of the left lane as soon as the light changed. ;-)
The new Cayman and Boxster are getting a lot of good buzz. Some say it's what the 911 was/and should still be.
I dorve a Cayman and 911 back-to-back in 20 minute track sessions at Lime Rock. The 911 is really capable but also a handful. The Cayman is a lot more precise and you can easily lap faster with the same hp as a 911.
Yes.... I drove the new 2013 Boxster S on the track at a recent Porsche roadshow, and it is an amazing car.. Absolutely no comparison to the prior Boxsters. After driving it and the 911 Carrera S back to back, I'd take the Boxster in a heartbeat. The track instructor told me lots of 911 owners are trading in their cars for the new Boxster, it's that good. On my want list once the 2013's come back from lease as CPO's in 2015......
Since the car was co developed by Toyota and Subaru, they each have a version. Subie has the BRZ, Scion has the FR-S. Went by the dealer today, to show me how to use the radio/navigation system. They happily will back the alarm I did not want anyway out of the purchase price. Cool. Took my daughter out late last night for a twisty ride on backroads. She approves!
Scion FRS in America/Canada, everywhere else known as the Toyota GT-86. The car was engineered by Subaru with technology given to them from Toyota like direct injection. The car is built in Subaru's factory in Gunma, Japan. Toyota backed the project as 30% owners of Subaru but Subaru did the engineering work to make it. The final tuning of the chassis and small body work bits were done individually at each company, that's why the FRS and the BRZ drive differently. It is more Subaru than Toyota/Scion.
The car in the vid. above may not not suck, but the driving might. What the hell does he keep doing w/ right hand? - should be on the wheel except for shifting. Lots of understeer there too. Older Boxsters and Caymans handle very, very well too, BTW - read any knowledgeable review.
...older Subbie STi's kick ass on the older girlyman Boxters and Caymans PLUS, you don't have that "Porsche Sigma" with the womens...
Same deal with Porsche as far as the miles between oil changes. A turbo engine might be a different span.
You mean the ones with the big wings? Are you 12? The 2.5L turbo WRX's and STI's are faster in a straight line than the standard Cayman. The Cayman S is quite close in acceleration. But the lighter, shorter, lower Cayman has much better handling. In the Car & Driver Lightning Lap comparison: 2007 Porsche 911 S Turbo S 2:57.5 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 3:01.8 2012 Porsche Cayman R 3:03.9 2010 Porsche Cayman S 3:05.8 2011 Subaru STI 3:13.8 2009 Subaru WRX 3:16.6 (what I have - hurt by brake fade) 2008 Subaru STI: 3:19.0 "Ass kicking" not found. Why do I drive a WRX instead of a Cayman? Room for four adults, year-round performance, reliability, etc.
A WRX Sti is A LOT less then either Por'sche's (or is it just "Porsche"?) Even a "WRX" with a COBB stage two set up (about $2K) and another $500 for intake will out perform a Caymen -Not to mention AWD, seating for four and the bitchin wing on the back...A stock WRX will kickass on a Boxter, I have done it, even without a wing! No, I am an immature 51...
Boxster/Cayman of any spec. and of any given year handle beautifully. The later model/higher spec. ones get faster and faster. Any year WRX is a very quick car and a good autocrosser - powerful w/ lots of grip. Late model/modified ones can be very fast. BUT - I've never heard anyone say that they handle better than the Porshes. In the last few years my '01 base Boxster and I have been beaten by more than a couple of WRX's at autocross and I have managed to be quicker than a couple of others. One highly modified late model WRX (street legal/drives there) that comes out to play is very quick and took FTD once. A Subaru '06 STI was FTD once. However, a highly modified but street legal (drives there) '00 Boxster has been FTD several times at those same events. The other multiple FTD car is a '74 914 (w/ 3.4 6cyl. - comes on a trailer). An '09 Z06 Vette (comes IN a trailer) has taken FTD twice in the last couple of years as has a supercharged Miata (w/ plate - drives there). My best ever was 4th quickest (my car is near stock). Confused yet? Which is the "better" car - I dunno, which one winds you up? Porsches (and a couple of others) wind me up. If you haven't been to an autocross, try it. It's a very good way to have cheap legal fun pushing you and your car at safe speeds. It's also quite effective way to have your preconceptions and ego meet reality. Back to the Subaru discussion.
