I currently own an '02 1150GS and an '08 990Adv. The KTM wears knobbies and the GS wears dual sports. I'm thinking I could consolidate both bikes into the new 1190. The wings on the new GS are not attractive IMHO.

Yup, The 1190 looks like it will be a winner. I think I would lean towards it over the GS in regular ADV spec with 17" wheels and 150hp!!!!!!!!

Pretty sure if you put a set of HD lights under the beak like everyone does you would be projecting this into the night sky.

So, More 15 HP, 4 kg heavier, oil lubricated clutch (?), smaller Alternator, smaller battery, wider tires, ABS Std., plus liquid cooled,, oh and plus spork (good prior post ref.Sjsharkfan) nose . :rofl

So, we now need a new Oilhead Boxer Sub Group "Spork Nose" :clap

That right hand side exhaust looks like a game changer for all the after market panniers. Back to the drawing board..... Although it does look tucked in. maybe can go with two large panniers now.

I like the way it looks, more insect like!!

Wait till a good cow, rock, or rock wall encounter and we'll see how crash worthy this bike is. I've seen plenty of crash marks on upper crash bars and for some reason this bike looks like it's not very crash worth due to those wings and radiators. It would only take one good radiator hit on those wings to knock it out of commission......hope it's not the case.

Not sure why but I really wanted to like this bike, maybe I will later but for now I'm not lov'ing it. :puke1

I'm sure there will be a hardcore off-road accessory to help guard it.

    For enduro purists.
    The equipment variant “Offroad”.

This package was compiled specifically for those who want to enjoy their R 1200 GS pure, but do not intend to ignore those practical extras. The daytime running light presents a clear advantage for visual appeal and safety, and ASC and disengageable ABS provide adequate traction particularly on loose surfaces. The equipment variant “Offroad” at a glance:

I think BMW are going feel the competition. I am glad I didn't wait for the new GS. The KTM looks more interesting to me, which is surprising because I hated the test mule, the complete opposite for the GS, the test mule looks better than the finished bike. So what have I gone for? I got a great deal on 2012 multistrada S touring :D

I'm feeling it your way too. The big disincentive as a rider for me with the latest GSs is the weight. They just keep getting porkier. Most of my riding is on road. This new machine makes the Ducati look more attractive to me, not less. I was waiting for this, but for my style of riding, it is a disappointment.

Any official word from BMW as to when the GS will arrive at the US dealers? Any hints as to the Adventure version or the RT?

Please note the cruise control on the controls... for those who've been clamoring for it.

Rumour has it that an adventure is at least a year away which makes sense. The RT probably a year away too but my 2c says it'll be the one worth waiting for.

Yes. Once the water cooling makes these bikes 'equals', the KTM is looking more attractive (barring of course an epiphany during test rides). Narrower engine, and better styling for sure.
