That seems a little high. Black powder rifles are fairly inexpensive, even going through big stores like Cabelas. I just saw a T/C 50 cal stainless w/camo on Cabelas web site for $299. If you look around, there are some CVA's that are even cheaper (if price is a major concern). I have a .54 cal Knight that is a blast to shoot, but maybe not as versatile as a .50 cal. The .50 would be a little better for long range, especially if you are shooting the 150 gr powder loads and saboted bullets. 50 cal components are easier to find in the stores. Either caliber will work on game just fine. I do enjoy the .54. Shooting 500+ gr maxi balls is some good fun!
Seems high to me too. Also, you can find .50 cal components cheaper. I'm not a big fan of red dots for hunting.
1911's and 700's.....no way. you ever hang out over at 1911forum? those fuckers are nuts...REVOLUTION! i don't think anything 'll get banned, i'm just looking for ideas for what to buy next while i still have a blank check with the wife.
i have a model 700 50 cal muzzle loader. here in nebraska the only rule is it has to load from the muzzle end. they're practically begging us to kill more whitetail. 50 or 54? 54 cal stuff is hard to find here. 50 you can buy anywhere and the deer don't seem to much care either way.
Depends on what you mean by "best" The world of 98k's is a very complex one....and in a general statement I would say the pre-war 98's to hold great value, there are some here and there that are much more valuable. Now as to the best shooting guns....eh....here there same same.....given that the guns are in like shape they will all shoot about the same....a bnz is going to shoot with a byf is going to shoot with a dot. The real shame is that place that sells them....I think the initials are MM. Biggest bunch of crooks out there....oh well now that the supply of 98k's are starting to dry up they can't rob people anylonger on those, but now are working the 91/30 and VZ angles.
that A-bolt is in my wish list as well but in 308, I'would like the 300 ultra mag, but already know how does it feel to pay $2 per round with my 45-70 !!
It did seem high to me, but it comes with bullets, a possibles kit/bag, CO2 ball discharger, ADCO red dot on quick release SS mounts (I'll have to take this off for hunting) etc. Pic: Thanks for the input though.
Nice - i have the 1989' version but i like the fact they added in the rail now. awesome shooter and very reliable.. not to mention piece of cake to clean
Wow, what a cool idea. I haven't looked at or even read about black powder stuff for decades. Last I knew, you screwed something in and yanked.
Kinda takes the skill out of a shot, but this looks kinda fun: <IFRAME height=315 src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/rSBhZUeADRs" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME> related story here
Just put a 7 day hold on a Browning 1885 high wall .22-250 (1985 model) in hopes of doing some 'yote hunting this winter. Great looking piece of hardware, as much awe factor as my little bda .380. Hex barrell, falling block, 95% condition. Have a weekend to decide on oil for the furnace or a new toy. But the scope needs eventual upgrade (high country 6 - 24×40 I think on there now, Tasco?). Any thoughts on a good set up for this piece? I'm in Maine so those 400 yard shots would be almost non-existant. Whats the deal with those Nikon coyote scopes? Buying the brand? Never owned a scoped rifle (shoot black powder mostly now) so new territory for me.
1885's are one of my favorites. You don't need a scope. Go with a mid-range Creedmore sight like this: http://uberti.benelliusa.com/soule-type-long-range-sight-set I've got a set installed in my 1885 in 45-70. Old school but not as old as black powder. If you need a scope, an 1885 deserves a Malcolm Leatherwood: http://www.buffaloarms.com/rifle_scopes_pr-4430.aspx
Looks like a nice rifle. I have a williams peep on my .54 since it used to be illegal to use a scope where I hunted. It made all the difference, as I can't hit squat with typical open sights. The .54 components are a little harder to find, but shooting saboted bullets makes it a little easier. Buy a bunch of sabots and pick whatever bullets you want to use. Either way, good luck!
