I had to go out in the car today so I tried out the Montana Remote application and it worked well. The VIRB was on the hood of the car out in the rain, and the Montana was on a Rugged Mount on the dash. I was able to stop/start video and take pictures from the Remote application.
I have been using the GP cameras for some time now. This new camera looks really nice. Thanks for the review and info. One may be on my Christmas list this year.
Ok, not a bike video but let's see how this works. It is 1080p. <iframe src="//player.vimeo.com/video/79740941" width="500" height="281" frameborder="0" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen></iframe>
I thought it looked good too. I'm not the best judge of image quality, but I know what I like. :) Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
No, the Remote application is only that. A remote control with start/stop video and image capture mode. But the VIRB has WiFi so there's probably a more fully-featured app coming out for Smartphones and the Monterra. The Remote app is likely to retain compatibility with the older gps units like the 62S/78S and Montana.
This Vimeo version of my bike ride video might work better than the YouTube version... <iframe src="//player.vimeo.com/video/79772235" width="500" height="281" frameborder="0" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen></iframe>
I'm finding Vimeo much easier to upload to so I should be able to add more test videos quickly. The one below is just more of the same from yesterday's recording, in rain and on the highway, this time with music by Aoife O'Donovan; a track called "Gone From Here" off her album "Fossils". Caution - there be banjos. <iframe src="//player.vimeo.com/video/79780493" width="500" height="281" frameborder="0" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen></iframe>
To my eyes the last three videos look better. Looks sharper and the skies are not blown out nice color too. Couple of questions. Are these shot with the image stabilizer on? And the video in post 71 what is the red dot in the center of the speed odo? Thanks keep up the good work. Fred
No, image stabilization is not on for any of the videos I shot. And the red dot is the G-Force meter. Sent using strings and tin cans and Tapatalk.
The videos are certainly much better. Especially so with the image stabilization off. I had never really considered this camera but with your testing and already having a Montana, the VIRB is looking more like the one for me.
What I like is the way there's still detail on both sides of the road at the end of the video from about 2:05 onwards - it's bright sunlight on one side and shade on the other and both show up well.
