Like that XLX. Mine was a 1984 XLX-61., I believe. It was a stripped down model. No tach, flat black handlebars and exhaust. Flatter bars, etc.

Thanks. Yeah, that's what mine originally looked like, but it was already "customized" when I bought it. I prettied it up with some chrome, paint, and a nice tank from eBay. Since I took that pic, I've found a nice original tank, and am thinking of making it look closer to stock, since I still have the black bars and pipes, and the solo seat.

Any kind of racing is hard on the equipment. Ever heard of a flat track bike with 100,000 miles on it?

I have seen reports of rubber mount XR's racing on paved tracks, but this is the first I have seen a rubber mount flat track bike. Is it a one off, or is there a racing series that uses it as a spec bike?

Think its more of a show bike.... Think Shaw HD built it here in the UK.

Thanks. It is my old 77 about a week after a ground-up rebuild, stopped at the bottom of the Palmerston Highway, North Queensland, Oz, God's own motorcycle country.

I just sold my 2009 1200 low.
Its the only bike I ever had I really did not like at all.

I should have got an old one, pre rubber mount.
I had a 1986 883 and thought it was a lot of fun, not too heavy, comfortable, it did vibrate when you hammered on it, but its a motorcycle.

I really disliked the seating position and the weight of the 09.
It looked great, sounded great and was a nasty ride.
Stock it was much worse, joke handlebars, $10.00 suspension, no lean angle at all, nasty seat.
Glad to be rid of it.

These are all well known pre-existing conditions, that can also be fixed.

Ack. Just ordered all the parts I "need" to set the bike up for two-up cruising... Seat, pegs, slip-ons, jets, shocks, sissy bar/rack, and some leather saddlebags. Tossed in the black fender strut covers from a totaled Nightster for fun (too much chrome). Hopefully my wife doesn't check our bank account anytime soon.

The daylight photo is from when I first bought her. I've added a few things since then. A mustang seat, arlen ness big sucker intake, saddlemen saddlebags, turn signal relocation, windshield, and some new chrome.

My only problem is with the saggy kickstand, which I hear is common on the early evo's. I'm working on a solution for that, and if it pans out I will post it for others who have the same issue.

I took a hammer to the spring mount until it tightened up.

so how much difference is there between rubber and non-rubber mounted 883's? are we talking numb hands after a long ride? I wanted a 2004-2006, but found a great deal on a 2003 883.
9k miles, orange racing color, black motor, 2 into screaming eagle pipes, jetted carbs, back rest and rack. all for $3,700. may have to jump on it.

even my rubber mount will give me sportster hands if i ride it at the wrong RPM for long enough. for me its really a matter of getting the speed (and therefore RPM) in a sweet spot to cut down on the vibes.
