Bike in a box. A winters project a Skyteam Ace

Chrome exhaust is marketed by the UK Skyteam importer and was approx £140,00 It does'nt have a cat so may have to swop it over back to the original when it's first MOT is due in 2.1/2 years time. Does it make much difference with a genuine 26mm Mikuni Carb on it? For some reason, my photos did'nt upload properly:

Wow 26 mm carb, on that wee-beastie, my little 125cc horizontal clone uses a 22 mm TRX 125 Kiehin clone carb. And the Loncin is a pushrod OHV engine. too. Howzatwerk? :huh

What's the bore and stroke of the Loncin?

I am not sure how it works. There seems to be a Mikuni and MIKUNI. The mikuni, I have is for a pit bike and is the same dimensions as the deni.

The other mikuni round or oval slide seems to be measured on a different way and is used on XS650, Triumph Tridents.

I think my Mikuni might be sold as 26mm, but is really a 22 mm.

Another thing to watch out for is the circlip on the rear sprocket. I replaced the standard 38th sprocket with a aftermarket 34th. The aftermarket one is .02" thicker and the circlip does not seat properly. The 4 bolts on the sprocket are there for show. Mine popped off leaving the drive and sprocket and carrier came out.:eek1 I put the standard sprocket back on.

Bore and stroke- 56.5 by 49.5 mm

A break in the weather yesterday. Time head out an see how it goes. The bike is not to bad now and a lot better than a stock one out of the box. The ACE puts a smile on your face an cruises easily at 80 kph (50 mph). To guess the top speed with the standard gearing would be about 105 kph (65 mph) ish.

The cat removed and pipe re welded, plus a bit of paint.

I had not heard of these bikes until I read this thread, now i've got one in transit! Should be here on Tuesday. I was searching around for a postie bike to mess around with, but decided to go with the Ace for something a bit different.

How'd you go with the new carb? did it run lean like the original? Also, could you tell me the diameter of the header pipe?

I'm thinking clip ons like Herbertd, remove the rear fender, make a new exhaust and a few new parts to make it my own. Should be fun.

I have just bolted it on and have not played around with adjusting the mixture screw to see if it is close or not. You should take the bike for a ride in standard form to get an idea of really just how slow they are.

The combo of removing the cat and new carb have it a nice bike to ride in traffic. Digging out the cat is something that is just plain hard work. The UK dealers sell a complete exhaust without the cat.

Before going out on your first ride. Bleed your front brake a they don't work.

Anybody with one of these bikes in the US yet? It looks really interesting.

Wow that explains it's ability to rev, it's a short stroke engine. That's normally the stroke of the 100cc Hondas.

Mine is 54mmX54mm.

OK, I understand about the carb throat, more of a height versus width dimension.

There have been a few threads on ADV about the US getting and then not getting the ACE. I think, at the moment it is still no.

AVA motorcycles in the US are bringing in there own version of the ACE. I think AVA have been drinking to much Kool Aid when reading the guff on their advertising. I almost fell off my chair with laughter when I saw it.

So my Ace arrived today, i've spent the last couple of hours assembling it. Still need to charge the battery, buy some oil for it and bleed the brake.

$90 for 20% increase in displacement? Made for CG125 clones.

I'd make extra certain it's for the short stroke Loncin, as there are CG125 clone engines with much longer stroke and quite possibly different wrist-pin diameters.

I've been searching around for the different CG125 clones, more specifically the 156FMI engine that is quotes on the ebay ad, and all the variants i could find have the same bore x stroke of 56.5 x 49.5.

Great news your bike has arrived. Was it damaged in transit ? All the ones that came south had various fork lift tines through the boxes.

The battery does not need charging. Just tip the acid into the battery. Prick a small hole in the top of the plastic container to make the acid flow a lot faster. Pull the brake pads out and give them a sand and clean up. Else you will not have any brakes. Seriously.

CG engines are upright and pit bikes are laid forward..

I reckon you maybe right. I would not be surprised if there many different details between the clones. Might try asking on the Skyteam Ace face book page.

The update from me.

I rode the ACE to work and back today. WOW what a difference between a stocker and my one. I am still using stock gearing. Easily cruises on the 80- 90 kph (50- 55 mph). Others say the top speed is 110- 120 kph ( 70- 75 mph) with the mods I have. Not sure I want go that fast on some thing so tiny. Flys up long hills. Still dies on really steep hills.

Every bike rider at lights, wants to know some thing about the bike.

Yes I discovered this when I put it on the charger and it wasn't flat. I've never had to fill a battery before, so I had no idea.

Fortunately my Ace arrived relatively unscathed. The chrome sleeve on the right shock has a few small dents in it. I can't see how this would have happened in transit, and suspect it was dented from the start. I don't care though as the shocks will be replaced.

Good to hear that it doesn't take much to get the Ace moving a bit quicker. I have followed your lead and purchased some parts from OORacing. Did you happen to ride it before and after installing the CDI? I'm curious to know what sort of difference it makes.

Took mine out for a nice ride today. Weather in the UK been very hot and sunny lately but today the south coast was covered in Sea-mist. Had no problem finding a suitable ground anchor to secure my ace. No W**ker was going to take it for sure!

A couple of my mates have dinged rear shocks. You can turn them around and face the dints inwards. As for the CDI i can not tell any real difference. I think all it does is increase your red line.

Herb. What a cracker of a summer you guys are having. Some of my friends are over your way riding their bikes across Europe for 3 - 6 months. I was umming and arring about going this year as well. I missed out on a UK heat wave.

Saturday morning in the garage and some new bits fitted. Some EBC sintered front brake pads. +1 front sprocket. Piggy back shocks.

Found the 2 bolts that hold the front sprocket on not much more than finger tight. Some loctite 263 will fix that.

Removed the kickstarter?
