That thing is scaring me. Take the hint from all the well meaning folks here. Junk it before someone gets killed. It would probably be someone like me. I would be trying to get close enough to see how bad it really was when it breaks off and the quad tumbles down the freeway. There is a chance of pulling your frame horns down and causing major frame damage.

Still need to drill and thread the intake hole to install a hose barb, and finis welding the motor to the base. The crank will be cut down to match the flywheel, and when I get the proper belt for my lathe I will finish the flywheel up.

The goal was to have a working air engine made with nothing other than basic power tools- mainly the drill press and welder. My students will not be using the lathe on their flywheels unless they want to come in after school and figure it out...

Some of the specs: 2cc, crankshaft made out of bent up 1/8" welding rod, piston made from 3/8" rod, rest of it is just basic hot rolled bar or flat stock. Lucked out on the flywheel and found a large chunk of 2 1/2" brass round stock at a scrap yard- plan on making about 40 flywheels out of it. Figure the total cost is under $5. The welds on the base plate are done with stick, wire feed, and oxy-acet- they practice a bunch and then hopefully do their "good one" on the base for display...

I'll post pics of the students projects when they get 'em done. :D

You're a man of exquisite passion. Very admirable.

Come on, buddy. Toyota truck frames are renowned for their unparalleled strength and resistance to corrosion. :lol3

Here's something else I made: hardwood stakesides! Also sandblasted the frame, reinforced the leaf spring attachment points, painted the frame, installed new decking, and replaced the bearings and tires.

Hauling my NX250 on a commercial rack on the back of my E150 I found it was unstable side to side. There is a single bolt designed to screw down and take up the slop in the receiver but it wasn't really effective.

My solution was to use ratchet straps from the extreme ends of the carrier looped around the rear bumper.

That made the set up completely stable, it might help on the FJ.

The other thing I do is run a 1/4 inch SS cable through the bike frame and around the hitch cross bar so if anything went bad I would be dragging the problem with me, not watching it tumble down the road in my rear view mirrors.

If i were trying to use that FJ set up I would have a minimum of two safety cables. They are likely to be needed.
