I wouldn't buy the bike in this situation

I bought my GS that way...Flew to Reno after talking to the seller who assured me that he had the clean title in hand. When I got to his house-surprise! Seems he hadn't bothered to change the title into his name when he bought it from the original owner 6 months ago. Luckily for me it was on a weekday and I was able to call the DMV and make sure that was not a problem which it is not in Oregon.

Yup. Imagine what would have happened if you'd gone down there on a weekend. I once drove to buy a 91 KLR and the guy pulled out a salvage title. Claimed he'd never noticed it said salvage till then and when he submitted the old title, it wasn't salvage. Turned out OR DMV screwed up and he was correct (he said he'd hold it pending DMV microfiche search but sold it to someone else who apparently didn't care about the salvage title) but who doesn't notice that your new title has SALVAGE written across the top.

All just more reasons not to live in Washington.
