I spent the day chasing Daniel and Dumbgirl on their dirtbikes out at five mile. All I can say is thanks Superplush thats the first time I pushed it in really really rocky stuff with the new sus and it's smooth as butter. I also got to crash test my new kickstand mount in the mud.:eek1 Passed with flying colors, no more cracked cases for me. Now if it will stop F$CKING RAINING I've about had it with this crap.:dog

Warp9man and I were supposed to take our wives slabbing today, but due to the last minute changing of minds, he and I were forced to go without them and run the Liberty to Avon route. We took out from my house about 10, grabbed some gasoline in Roy, and carved up Ogden canyon. We turned over the Pineview resivoir, and as we made our way around the mountains I noticed a cool layer of clouds slicing halfway across the entire mountain range to the east and north. I desperately started looking for a good place to stop and photograph them. By the time I got to a decent spot and pulled over, the clouds had started dissipating rapidly:



We continued on through Eden, then Liberty, and headed on up the pass. The road had running water in some spots, mud in others, and dry in other areas. There were some other motorcycles/ATVs/SUVs out, but traffic wasn't too bad. We stopped at that neat little bridge over the creek and took a stretch, chatting with some fishermen talking wild tales of giant 18" trout for dinner the previous evening:





We continued on up through Avon and proceeded to Logan where warp9man spotted a divey downstairs pizza place about 12 noon. After wrangling with our bikes for a minute trying to figure out how to kick-stand the darn things on a steep downhill road with a severe crown (ah heck, just park them facing traffic) we proceed into the pizza joint to find it most divey, complete with peanut shells on the floor, wooden tables covered with carvings by adolescents with pocketknives, and tractor-pulls showing on the big-screen television. We enjoyed a FANTASTIC deep-dish pizza with spinach, artichokes and chicken, then hobbled back upstairs and to the bikes.

Going back through Avon, I spotted a sign for "Porcupine Dam", Warp9man gave me the thumbs up, so we took a hard left and cruised down a narrow paved road with trees hanging over, then up a dirt ramp, and found ourselves here:



The road kept going, but we decided to head back and hit some side roads in the pass. While on the way back, examining side roads, we came across two more riders, a father on his Kawasaki 250 and his son on a Yamaha 125 from Ogden:


He (the father) was knowledgable of our fine ADV site, having read it often and even recognizing the name of the infamous warp9man, and told us he was out training his son, a soon-to-be Adventure Rider megastar.


We ran up and down a nearby trail, and headed on down the road. Though warp9man and I were moving quite a bit faster than those two, our constant checking of side roads seemed to lead us to often come across the dynamic father/son duo quite often. In fact, as we hit the bottom of the trail, almost back to the pavement, we saw them loading their bikes into a truck.

Warp9man and I felt good about our fuel levels, so we went over the North Ogden pass before stopping for fuel. Then we shenaniganned on to I-15 (yes, the KTM has a greater power-to-weight ratio than the Suzuki) and headed south on I-15. Sure enough, the rain storm caught up with us, and since I was wearing my dirt helmet rathen than my street helmet, I learned that raindrops at 75mph are quite painful on the nose and cheeks. I "peeled off" in Roy as warp9man continued South for home. As I navigated the surface streets, the rain pounded down harder and I at one point actually contemplated finding roadside refuge (the water was soaking between the tear-offs on my goggles) but the knowledge that I was a mile from home pushed me onward. By the time I reached my house, I was drenched to the core. So with a "devil-may-care" attitude I rolled the bike up on the grass, got out some supplies, and proceeded to wash the bike in my riding gear as the rain continued to fall:



All said and done, a fun trip that we hope to return to do again soon. There were plenty of other side roads we had not the time and fuel to discover.

You guys had a good time. That seems like the kind of road the v-strom could handle. You guys should let us all know when you're riding so other utards can join ya!

Were any of you the two FFs that kept leapfrogging me in Eureka yesterday sometime between noon and 1pm? One was a 1200GS and one looked to be an 1150GS Adventure. I was on the 1150GS wearing the day glow green helmet.

You were stopped near the west end of town when I first passed, then I was on a side road when you flew by on the main road. You then stopped again out near the intersection that goes north to Vernon as I continued that direction.

We weren't out to exclude anyone. Warp9man was going to put his wife on the back of his bike, and my wife was going to take the Sumo 650 and we were just going to meander around the asphalt a little while. But that morning one wife had stuff to do, the other wife wanted to sleep in, and so we just rewrote the plans and took off with out much planning or fore-thought.

We want to do that run again soon, so next time I'll get the word out earlier, collect phone numbers, send invitations, prepare refreshments, and set out place cards

How do you find the time to ride when you are always lubing your chain?
