DR350 supermoto project on a KLR budget

I got my wheels for my dr650 supermoto from here. Jeff is top notch.

Now April 8, still not done. But...

The front brake setup is finalized, the rear wheel setup is finalized and painted. I just need to turn a couple spacers (on Wednesday) and the tires should be here sometime next week. I ordered BT003's in 110 front and 140 rear....

Pic of my fancy new rear brake, thined and re-cut to original DR size. After that pic was taken I replaced the screws for lower profile ones that do not hit the caliper mount. The wheel has also been cut to move the rotor inboard by 5mm:

I rode the bike about 30 miles so far, power is good but jetting is a bit rich and gearing is too low with the dirt wheel. The motard wheel should turn about the same revs so I may go with a bigger front sprocket. I also need to do an oil change and adjust the valves again. The bike WILL be on the road by the end of the month.

I always wanted to do a DR350 SM with the 440 kit from procycle. I even thought about selling my SMC to finance it. Some RM forks, try to find one of the old ohlins shocks for it, and the big bore, I figured I could build the SM no manufacturer seems willing to. It's cool to see your progress, keep it up!

Still needs a little carburation tuning but it is FUN!
I am ordering a 15T front sprocket to try slightly higher gearing. Feels a little low right now. I'll put about 200 miles on it and re-check the valves.

Now if I could just get the title for it...

Bridgestone BT003, track day tires actually, 110/70/17 front and 140/70/17 rear. A 150 rear would fit but might be too much tire for the 350... Cannot give you a report on the tires yet though. Not enough miles on them. They have a really round profile, quick turn-in for sure... I do not expect more than 2500 miles out of them on the street.

Edit: Also comes in 120 frt and 150 rear...

Still wondering about the seat. I kinda like the color on it. I don't know. Black would look tougher. Maybe I should start a poll?

Screw the poll, dude --do what you want. (I think you should keep the seat color --looks badass enough as it is without going all survivalist....

that thing should handle sweet! My DR350 was an amazingly competent supermoto (even with Dunlop 606 on it) --your should rip!

Now get out there and start disturbing the peace..... if you need to get crazy with gearing due to the 17's a 16T front will fit, but you'll need to loose the case saver.

Did just that today, that exhaust is just too loud for me. Though I bet it could save a lot of lives...


I did about 25 miles of really tight stuff.

Tires and suspension are awesome. Brakes are pretty good. I was thinking about swapping out the front caliper but I may stick with that one and just change the brake line for a stainless one.

Gearing is just a bit low, hopefuly the new 15T (14 now) will do.

Carburetion is a bit off. Starts with no choke from dead cold. Cuts off at WOT and backfires on deceleration. I think I am too rich. I am going to wait until I check the valves and make an insert for the muffler before I make any changes though. It seems to have good power.

Overall, I'm happy. And I also got the title. Tag and registration next week...

Those wheels very similar to the ones I fitted one my 89 CRM250. I found a rear disc with the same mounting points as on the alloy.

You missed the balance point when mounting the tires though.

I got the rear dead on but two beers happened before I mounted the front... Still only took very little weight.
