Started in layton and took the old rail bed out from promontory point. It was good but had spots of soft but nothing to bad. It wasnt till the flats that the fun began

So I take it that you left the grade and got stuck. Not got stuck while riding the old railroad grade?

We did the same ride two years ago. I loved the isolation out there. Gave new meaning to the sound of silence.

Awesome! My last mud ride wound up being very costly. I still find mud tucked away in places from that ride almost 3 years after the fact.

I tried crossing that area once. Didn't work...........

Great idea with clutch plates though! Guess that's the advantage of identical bikes.

Thanks for a chuckle at your expense this morning. We have all been there at one point. If not ride more, its inevitable. Somewhere in the chaos, someone surely muttered "this is why they call it an adventure"

I know that mud, how you guys unstuck those 950's is a story itself. Thanks again for sharing.

So for clarification, was the mud the only route available, or did you leave the railroad grade to find that? I'm planning to do this ride for the first time this spring and just want an idea of what I might encounter. Thanks.

Hey Gunnner, even the main road had sections that had us on the ground due to the unseen bottom layer of mud. its nasty out there right now

Hey Utahrpm, even the rail grade was bad in sections. the mud on the rail grade is what packed up and ripped my fender and abs sensor off. the lower section next to the grade was actually better then the elevated bed was....who knew?

Nice Jake... Super late notice / too late but I was gonna say you could do the top end over at my place with heat etc /shorter drive... Still need to hook up about that TIG. Got the MIG hooked up and dialed at the house for now, down from the shop up in Silver Creek...

Good luck on your trip man!
