The bearings are the same size: 1". You need a pully spacer of 20mm, a spacer left side (brake side) 11mm, a spacer right side (pully side) 18mm So, go on and do it!
That is an incredible looking bike and now you have the right size wire wheels for a good adventure tire selection. You have me thinking.
Any XR1200 owners headed to the Grand National Championship race in Calistoga, Ca this Saturday. If so, look me up. Barry Boone
Round 20 of our 20 race AMA Pro Harley-Davidson Insurance Grand National Championship is Saturday October 15th at the LA County Fairplex at Pomona, CA. The series points battle is down to the wire as our top three are seperated by only 8 points! It will be the XR750's versus the Ducati, Bonneville, KTM, Suzuki's and others for the season finale. The promoter of this event is a class act and the entire day is very fan friendly in a number of ways. I posted a reply in the flat track thread in Racing hoping we can have a meet up on race day. The best time for me is right after Timed Practice/Qualifying. For a complete detailed minute by minute schedule of the day go to AMAProracing.com and click on Flat Track. Once there click on Round 20 and click on the detailed schedule PDF. Hope to see some fellow XR1200 owners and other ADV Ridrs out on the West Coast! Barry Boone
That is awesome Barry, the XR is high on my list of bikes to own someday. The XR's sound the best of any of the road race bikes. When I was at NJMP last month, they were the slowest thing on the track, but had the highest cool factor (and lots of close competition to boot)! Good riding, and let us know how much you enjoy it as you get used to it.
After only 1,000 miles my first impression is wow. I've put over 200,000 on Ultra Classics. I've owned lots of other makes and love many of them but the XR is pure passion. Fine piece of equipment. I know...it's early. The Vance and Hines pipes are perfection. B
This site is absolutely terrible. I just bought one bike to add to the one I already have and now I want to go test ride an XR1200. Terrible....
I've only had it a few days but they have been good ones. So far I'm absolutely loving it. I was looking for something that was fun at real-world speeds...hooning around town like an idiot, hitting the local twisties, daytrips, and the occasional longer journeys 2-up. Most important, it'll be my daily driver as well. Given that job description I think it fits the bill. The front forks--big piston Showas--are incredible, and the front end feels very planted. I haven't worked out the settings on the rear shocks yet but they're going to be fine for what I need. Braking is excellent--progressive with good feel. Seat is firm but not bad (I've suffered through a BMW "low" seat on my 1150GS which IMHO was the benchmark for OMGthatsucks). I love the sweet spot between 3k and 4k rpm for smoothness, then that little extra hit above that. It just feels well-sorted, but has the bit of XL personality. For the sake of reference, my previous bikes have included the FXST, aBMW R1100RS, BMW R1150GS, 88 CBR1000, a HawkGT superhawk conversion track bike, and a bunch of other stuff--GL1500, RZ350...yadda yadda. The XR1200 owner's group site has been extremely helpful; I've been lurking there and in this thread for a while. Thanks for all the posts, gang. First mods will likely be the Ventura luggage rack system, some sort of frame sliders/protection. After that, an exhaust upgrade will happen, and I'm looking at the Corbin seat options. I'm short so I'm on tiptoe--that's taking some getting used to again. If I trim my toenails too much I can't reach the ground at all. It's a neat bike. Sort of hard to describe--if you get a chance to test one, do so. I've been wanting to get some "beauty shots" of it--and I was in a perfect location to do so yesterday with some narrow one-lane bridges in the countryside--but I can't bring myself to pull over.
Oh FFS..... I just sold my FLHR and just last night, I re-watched a dvr'd XR1200 race at Daytona from earlier in the year.... And now I've gone and stumbled into this thread. Man alive I may have to go and pick one out Monday. I really think these things are great looking and neat machines. No they're not sport bikes, I look at them as more of a standard, Harleys version of the Ducati Classics or even Honda's long running Nighthawks. They really do look like a damned fine machine. Well come monday I'll be headed to my local HD dealership and see what we can do.... and then I'll have to sell the idea to the wife. ETA: FWIW I've owned an Aprilia, Ducati, Kawasaki, Yamaha, BMW's, and Harleys. I can't say again how much I'm drawn to this machine. What kind of gas mileage and range are you getting on these bikes? Thats a helluva nice machine you got there yellow jam, keep us updated with your final product.
For the sake of reference, my previous bikes have included the FXST, aBMW R1100RS, BMW R1150GS, 88 CBR1000, a HawkGT superhawk conversion track bike, and a bunch of other stuff--GL1500, RZ350...yadda yadda. But...but...I thought only Harley riders bought harleys Really like the look of this. I've never seen one in person in white. Like it. I posted somewhere else here a long time ago that I had a chance to demo one in So. Cal. It wasn't an XR1200x, but just the "regular". Realllllly liked it. Seemed to have just a great grunt-ability. Instant go-power. Really fun in traffic. It's the bike that originally brought me into a Harley dealer...never had stepped into one before. I was curious and wanted to see one..."a harley that I could actually ride" Now I own a Road Glide. Life is weird.
BuB. The best looking and best sounding... FRICKEN MUSIC!!! Must be ruled out due to there being no way (I know of) to mount Passenger Pegs. The V&H Widow (Similar to the competition version pictured) are what most go with. They look great and are on par to be the best performance enhancing but are a bit loud for my taste. George Latus. (of Team Latus Racing) Went with the FMF pictured below. I REALLY like it. It can be made to work with passenger pegs. It is small... And it is surprisingly quiet. Ride Safe Ride Often.
Thanks. I was looking at the Remus in hopes of gaining a smidge of extra room if I added saddlebags for trips, but that FMF looks great. There are a bunch of cool exhaust options. I need to figure out if a quick suspension setting change could possible give me a smidge lower seat height...it's comical watching me teetering on my right big toe trying to swing the sidestand up or down with a flailing left foot. I'll have to mess around with the shocks a bit. (I am a short-legged critter) Good grief, this bike is fun.
from the xr forums , a tune and some holes in the muff and there are few differences at the dyno to the after market pipes.
