I would have to agree with Laromonster. This is just a hang out for KTM640 riders, and though it is definitely used for tech talk, it is not limited to that. I do see your point about searching info though, and maybe a request for a tech talk section might be a good idea. Maybe say TECH TALK KTM... etc for each manufacturer would work, and then just put in the thread the model and then the issue. Somewhat more searchable if everyone follows a format like that! I dunno, just a thought!

I think Bill might have meant to post that in the ktm 640 index thread- that thread has become the default thread for all technical questions, and the people asking the questions seem to not see the first page, where most of the questions are answered.

    Thanks Tseta,
I read of these in the "Index" but when I searched for them on e-bay (on my phone, no computer at work) I only found them listed for Honda's. I thought maybe the index had outdated info and asked here because this seams to be the "water cooler" for the LC4. After reading your reply (thanks again) I searched e-bay from my home computer and found the hoses listed, ordered them and I'm looking forward to riding again sooner thanks to this thread. :freaky

    Bill,
I completely understand your statement and agree (although I think it should be left open for responsible users). Lately I've been using this thread too much as a question and answer area and not for it's intended purpose (you do get more replies posting here than by starting a new thread) and I apologize for my misuse. I would suggest that we start a LC4 Q&A thread, post it prominently in the index and all subscribe to it to help each other out.

    I'll try to be better,
    Gerst

I already checked in but this is more in line with the theme of this thread (I think). The mighty 640 playing single track rescue vehicle.

I have been running the ASI hoses for over a year now, with no issues! I did however end up with an incomplete kit, actually had extra hoses! I contacted the seller on Ebay and got an immediate response and received the missing hoses in a short time at no charge!

    Laromonster,
If a 640 rider has a technical problem the idea of the forum is to start a new thread.
It spreads the word to all of us.

That's how it has always been done in the past and that model has been successful for all of us.

Reading through 446 pages of this thread to find out about silicone hoses(for example) is impossible.

The Thumper forum has so many different groups of users its hard to find posts related to the 640.

The Orange Crush forum provides a nice place for 9xx owners to build threads, discuss, relate, solve problems. This doesn't exist for 640 owners.

The LC4 link thread is where I look for answers and it shouldn't be filled with problem solving discussion.

I subscribe to this thread as the place to catch what is going on with the 640 Adventure. Every morning I get an email with all the discussion going on with 640 owners and I can choose to follow the link to Advrider.

We need a thread that 640Adv owners can subscribe to, and ask for help and give help.

Edit: I looked through the LC4 index thread. I usually look at the list of solutions links at the front. I looked through the whole thread and there is lots of problem solving. I'll subscribe there.

    Guys,
I thought this thread was to introduce KTM 640 owners to other owners.
If I want to chat I send a PM.

Maybe I misunderstand how things are supposed to work. I thought if we had a technical problems or questions I/we were supposed to start a new thread, not pile on this one.

For example I am presently experiencing a cooling problem...so I started a new thread asking for ideas and suggestions about what could be wrong.

If that's not how it works just let me know and I will post my tech questions here.

    Cheers all.
Yep I'm in scenic Tajikistan at the moment. Getting over some of the passes (up to 4665m) with the intake valves not opening fully due to the collapsed bearing was a bit tricky, but the country is great. The motorcycle mechanic I found here took me out hiking to make the most of the down-bike-time, top guy.

I'm lucky enough to have a friend in the UK DHL the bearing to me, it's in Moscow at the moment so hopefully will be here this week. Thanks for the support.

I'll take this opportunity to pimp my mate's ride report (he's on a 950), hopefully I haven't spoiled the ending too much.

And to keep on topic for this thread, attached is a photo with her loaded up with 45.5l of fuel. 25.5l in the main tank, and 10l in each of the two orange Liquid Containment fuel bladders. Very handy those. (it does ride badly with all that weight up high, but it's only temporary)

    Regards
    Wayne

I agree with you wholeheartedly Bill, technical questions should be posted in a new thread.
This thread is more of a meet and greet, or "check out my bitchin new bling" type of thing

I rarely use the built in search window here, Google is our friend, if you type in "site:advrider.com silicone hoses" you get relevant hits.

The other advantage of starting a new thread is that you are more likely to draw upon the wisdom of all thumper owners, not just the 640 crowd.

Yeah, one weird thing about all the technical questions that get asked here- almost all of them apply to other LC4 bikes. Not just adventures. Oh well, it works well enough.

    So it goes.

    Hey guys,

yesterday i went on a testride with my LC4 adventure.

I made a video of this trip on tarmac cause i installed a new carb.
The original BST40 had to go and is replaced by a Keihin FCR41 :clap

It´s a big improvement on the bike! Better idle, calmer Vibrations and an ecellent power management. The engine reacts even quicker and runs fantastically.

If you want more fun,, JD jet kit and the adjustable leak jet kit helps these carbs "wake up" as if they needed it.. also makes them get better fuel milage as you can adjust the squirt of the accelerator pump with a screwdriver while the bike is still running.. I did that to my sxc and was a wheelie monster after that,,, should have never sold her...
