It wasn't half bad, actually. The day started out pretty warm, just a few sprinkles. We met up at 7 a.m., cruised a buncha dirt roads that I'd never been on before, which is all of them, and then ended up in Frog Bayou. That was a fun trail. Earl kept telling me about some ill-fated GS ride out there, and frankly I would not want to be on a big bigger than a 610 on that track, but we made it, problemo.

Crappy cell-phone shot of Earl making quick work of the same hill where a bunch of GS's got hung up this summer, or so he told me. I got to get my good camera out there, the area is beautiful.

We hit the falls, nice area.

It was actually a nice day. The light rain kept the dust down and the riff-raff at home, so we had the woods almost to ourselves. We even took a shot at some of the OHV trails over on Mills Creek. That was a mistake.

That red clay had already turned to snot, and it was only going to get worse. So we high tailed it out of there, had some lunch and cruised Highway 16 home in a cold rain. All in all, a very good day.

I just found out that my younger brother Todd is on a hunting trip in NM with a group that includes Michael Martin Murphy. I'm jealous. How does a cop rate hanging out with a music master?

That kinda takes the "International" flavor out of it. Unless you count Chinese 150s and Taiwanese scooters.
I guess the banana republic that we have become, can't buy enough high-end bikes to make showing their wares here profitable.:cry

John (CopperJohn) and I were at the little BBQ place in Lake City Colorado this summer. Michael Martin Murphy was doing a show there that night. seemed like a nice guy. was having some coffee in the cafe, asked how we were doing and if we were having a good time. Drove up in a pickup truck to do a show.

Very fast and challenging sections of the ~100 mile ride today.
If it would have rained much more before 10 am it could have been a disaster. I am glad we got an early start!
Started steady light rain on our way to Crosses for lunch... We had decided to take the back roads to Fayetteville while we were eating. When we finished lunch it was pouring rain :eek1 We put on the rain gear and slabbed it back to Fayetteville on HWY 16.
Hey Doc.... wish you could have gotten wet with us today :D
    Great Riding with you Bob:freaky
Sorry but only got a couple of pictures to share.

Visiting the shops in the DFW area was better than the show. I had never been and really went in with a naive expectation. I won't attend another, unless something drastic is changed. Visiting the DFW dealerships was more more informative and enjoyable.

Mornin Doc! I'm headed home today. It was a good run up here in Nebraska, been up here since April. Paid bills, got ahead and bought EarlVets GSA.

Kimberly and I are hoping to take it to South Texas for Thanksgiving and maybe see some of Big Bend.

Of course all that depends on how much help I can get from Obama....:lol3

Morning! Just back from a weekend hunting trip to TX. Two less Bambi's in the population. :clap

Had the GS in last week for oil change and post trip look over. Got one of those calls I did not need. Rear U-Joint going bad at only 24,000 miles. :huh

Apparently (and I knew this before) there was a lot of corrosion on the back of the drive shaft - looks like the original owner had ridden in salted snow roads. There is a small access port on the bottom about 2 inch big. Figure the salt got on it and started corrosion.

BMW does not think those shafts should be rebuilt and its almost $800 for a new one. Did some research here and found a place in Green Bay, WI that can rebuild them and put in grease fittings for $290. Had Jerry send it there, hope it works out.
