Subscribed. Though I would be more interested in 21", 18" wheel set with your hubs, discs,etc, if can keep the TCS and ABS.

Hi guys. I’m still concern about how the changes of both wheels can affect the ABS and TC.
Even if we keep the original hubs, I assume these systems are programmed with the original wheels diameter so, if we increased 2” the front wheel and only 1” the rear I supposed the systems ad to be reprogrammed or they will work wrong???

ABS and TC are some of this bikes' greatest features, and lets admit, we all paid a lot for them when purchasing the bike, so it's of best interest to keep them.

Also, both sistems are quite sensible to their imputs. This ABS can work on and off road, knowing how to behave only by recurring to speed sensors. I think it's more than probable that a different wheel diameter will screw it to some degree.

The ABS and TC is done with math formulas and I doubt wheel changes will effect it.

My wife had the F650GS twin, and I tried to lower it some with low profile rear tire (about 1/2" OD smaller) and the ABS refused to work with that tire because it was too small compared to the front OEM. Doubt this will be an issue on the Yamaha tho.

This link doesn't specify, but they do have a patent for the system, it is not ordinary.

This Yamaha's TC and ABS might be inovative, but I doubt they don't use front vs rear wheel speed as an important variable. All the math in the ABS/TC algorithm is done with some fixed values. Standard speed relation between front/rear axels is probably one of them

they were very nice and were clueless as to what would happen with diameter changes....i let them know that we have quite a few souls waiting anxiously for an answer....their technician promised to pursue it further,,i told him i would share any learnings from our end as i have always done in the past....

and ''while your at it would you be willing to check parts availability'' on the list of front /rear parts listed in another post...he assured me of an answer shortly..we'll see

HOLY MOLY!!!! as i'm typing up this post ''Dave '' called back with the good news that all the parts are in Japan and clued me in on how to get em drop shipped to to my local yamaha dealer

FYI the part numbers were accurate save for an updated number on the 5 lil screws holding the sensor plate.. the correct/updated # is :
90149 05030 instead of # 90149 05029

he re-iterated that the official Yamaha answer is "We cannot give you an answer about this modification . It is against company policy.''..well, i get that reply all the time. If i based my universe on the corporate MO i'd still be stuck in the toules.

well it's monday in denver ,,so all the dealerships are closed...i'm ordering 3 or 4 sets of hubs/components tomorrow.

Well, this “company policy” doesn’t help at all. Difficult decision if we don’t know how different wheels affect the ABS and TC….

that's why ya have guys like me ,ready willing and able to sail outside 'the harbors of the known'....and come back and let ya know 'what's out there'..

today i'll order up several sets of front and rear hubs....i'll also order up a front sensor plate because if i'm to build a Superlite hub ...i'm aiming at having my hub interface with the oem sensor plate....to keep cost down..

currently my aim is to get a wheel assy together so,that it will be as hassle free as yanking the wheel to swap/repair a tire.

no matter what,,we'll have a 21 wheel built on an oem hub within the month...and then we'll KNOW

Hey, with regards to gregs Superlite ST wheel set 001. Has he gone with the 21"/18" Combo or did he decide to stay with OEM sizes...just interested...
