This is an old structure called The Guildhall.

Not exactly dilapidated but well worth a look ....

The Guildhall has had many uses and lives to date. The Great Hall itself was built in about 1390 as a meeting place for the Guild of Corpus Christi (a small but powerful group of businessman and gentry). When the Guild was dissolved in 1548 the Corporation bought the buildings and in 1632 the Town Library was moved into the East Wing of the Guildhall from St Martin' s Church. It is apparently the third oldest public library in the country. The Great Hall was often used as a courtroom and was also used regularly for theatrical performances, banquets and civic events..... hmmm .... I can see a very distinct connection forming here :D

It is also thought that Shakespeare actually performed here. (This is not Stratford Upon Avon BTW, its actually a building found in Leicester town centre tucked away on one of the backstreets).

For the next fifty years the Guildhall was used for several purposes including the headquarters of the local police and a school. Following a major renovation programme it was then opened to the public as a museum in 1926.

The Guildhall has a well-founded reputation of being a haunted building and has featured on Living TV's 'Most Haunted'. If you have an interest (and the nerve) to spend an evening in a haunted building, can you believe that the general public can actually take part in a 'Ghost Watch' at the Guildhall or Leicester Castle. :eek1

    Scary but very true.

edit: BTW I meant to add if anybody is actually interested in historical buildings and backgrounds I can post more but I dont want to bore you all if its of no real interest to anyone.

With an architect/construction related background I'm a huge fan of these things.

And this one is the most unique uses of an old boxcar I've ever seen. This was on a dirt road in southern Oklahoma, just a little southeast of Ardmore. The ends of the boxcar were cut out and left in the field accross the creek. It's probably the only steel covered bridge in America.

    Lee Harvey,

Hey that is one awesome area of Utah. We've been to Hovenweep. Absolutely love RT141 from Fruita to Dove Creek in Colorado.

    dragoon,

I wish they were all mine but they're not. The ST and the Vegas are mine. The '49 and the '52 pans both belong to good friends of mine. Every year when I'm shooting the calendar these guys drag their best old iron out for a ride through the country and some photos.

The whole Four-Corners area is full of Native American ruins. Hovenweep and Mesa Verde are two of sites that the US Gov has laid claims to. But there are many other dwellings out there to be discovered. Just about any canyon in that area has some kind of dwelling in the walls or on top of the mesa. You just have to look for them. That second picture was just one of the many structures at that location. There were some more structures on top of the mesa and several built into the canyon walls that we took pictures of.
