Ummmmm, He was asking about Rimlocks not sprockets. I have no idea s to either answer, but my bike came with a HUGE back and a tinny front: 13/54 I think the count was.
I'd originally planned for rim-locks, but decided against them. I don't think I'm really gonna be putting that much power to the ground and it's easier to change tires/tubes w/o em. Also, the balance issue.
i have run as low as 10PSI in the rear with no probs 15PSI front.......i was going to go the rim locks but changed my mind
Thanks heaps for this! Pulled my carb to bits yesterday to replace said screws etc. Bit of a mission, but not to bad since I was in a well equipped workshop. Doing this job out in the sticks with a factory tool kit would be mission impossible though. Replaced screws etc with some nice stainless cap screws... Thanks again!
I agree. Unless you are doing some pretty aggressive dirt riding rim locks aren't really needed IMO. If you start spinning up the rear on full throttle a bunch well then you could spin the tire on the rim and pull a valve stem. But this is unlikely. I've never had a rim lock effect balance much one way or the other. Sure improves the flat fix routine without them!

hey, those anakees look good. looke like they'll handle dirt roads well, too. what kind of mileage are you getting out of them? no aftermarket seat, but it will be my son's 16-year-old butt on it. want the boy to develop some character, doncha know!

Congrats Danny! I'm glad to see you rejoining the ranks of the DR650. Your input 3 years ago is what swung me over to the DR650. I joined this site in Aug '03 and then bought a DR650 in Sept '03. I LOVE the bike and love working on it, talking about as much as riding it. I hope Suz doesn't change them for a long time! If I want liquid cooling, shims and complexity, I already have many choices, so Suzuki, if you are reading this thread, leave the bike alone!! DR buyers can swap the seat, tank, jetting, ect as long as we can still get the great price and simplicity...
I put a 2.15 rimlock in the rear. I don't bother with the front. I run between 13 and 18 psi in my full knobbies and do most my riding offroad. Bridgestone front and Kenda Trakmaster II rear (the big one).

I went with the Renthal Jimmy Buttons and 1 inch risers. I'm 6'0 and this combo feels pretty good. I was told they were Renthals highest bars. I did have to re-route my cables though and the clutch is still short but I can get away with it.

I had a productive day yesterday. Installed Eibach springs front and rear and Race Tech emulators in the forks. Race Tech doesn't list 2002-2006 DR650's for emulators but they list 2001 and 2007 with the same part number so I ordered a set to install in my 2006. They fit perfectly and from the short time I've had to test them, they make a big difference. Much firmer yet not as harsh. Only draw back is the bike is now quite a bit taller with the same preload so I have some adjusting to do. Can't wait to get in the dirt as I'm sure with this much improvement on the road, they will really shine when it gets rough.Andy
Top thread, I think the GS may be put up for sale and a DR650 given the go. I like the simple design of the bike, with a few mods they look perfect for for the type of riding I do on the GS but with a little more manageability in the rough. Any details about this bike? Thanks Brad
