dammed kids! cant do anything right! VERY cool - A huge part of me wished that I could have gotten into racing 20 years ago but, eh, whataya gunna do? Well, ill be out there. Probably camping with or right next to the Lost Coyotes. Look for the Grey Ranger.
looking at my second race on sunday.... getting excited! I have been training a bit and working on the bike - ready to give it another go this weekend!!
See you out there. I am on my strict training regimen of lounging around and trying to not expend any precious energy. I'm gonna need it this weekend.
Fantastic stuff, really inspiring for a like me. Im in a very similar place, except Im looking at formally competing in rally raid. There arent any formal races here, but last weekend I finally found some serious racing types who know this part of the world very well. They absolutely killed me. At least I know how far I have to go still.
isnt it amazing how fast people that actually know what they are doing can do off road?! Im still stunned
I dont have half the experience you do! I started out in 2004, but most of my experience is on dirt roads & tracks. Only recently have I been doing my best slide down a piece of asphalt! I still prefer dirt and off piste. That description of your un-intended jump scares the crap out of me! Ive had similars experiences and come off. I need to learn how to jump and control those jumps.
I do as well! Someday Id like to find a jump somewhere so I can practice under controlled circumstances. either that or I should just take some lessons from my cousin, "Monty" One thing unique about racing in the desert is if it has been raining, conditions can change by the minute so even if a course has been marked or even if there was a road there - it might not be there after a little rain.
Good news; Through some friends, I got two sponsors today - Kenda Tires and AMS oil. The breaks on the prices arent huge, but its better than paying full price!! looking forward to Saturday!
it via a post on the District 37 website for D.37 racers. Its not significant - nothing is for free, but its to help the racers.... which is sweet
Well, I managed to scrounge a little money for a new set of tires for this weekend. I'm going to stick with Maxxis for the time being, but I want to check out the Kenda's.
did you get on that sponsor thing? my next set will be Kenda as well.....im very curious to see if they hold up as well as the Maxxis tires. Im ASTONISHED at how much damage going fast off road destroys tires.
Little different than trail riding eh? The sharp volcanic rock just murders 'em. Say, I have a real nice aluminum stand I'll sell ya cheap
I said Id take ya out to lunch! after the race, when we are heading out Ill grab ya a bite to eat.... its the least I can do. Im probably going to have be to leaving in similar speed as I did last time.... Im going to have my wife and room mate in tow!
Sorry I can't make it like I thought (Uncle's Funeral in San Diego) Best of Luck to you & MotoMike! Have a great time guys !!!
bummer about the bad news....sorry to hear that. the wife and the room mate are coming out for this one as long as the rain doesn't scare them away.
It went well! Im still trying to put together a pre race/race video thing but... ....stupid work. Anyways here is the nutshell. Didnt camp because of the rain - got out there sunday morning with not enough time for prep and didnt get the camera mounted. Blew the start, race went well though. Im definitely improving as a rider. Passed loads of people and finished well. not sure of the standings yet - will know soon! ill have a couple pics up soon!
