Too bad you don't own or have access to a few bikes. I live too far away to think about riding my bike that far, it would take weeks to get there on a dual sport from here.

I understand that it would be an investment, but you can find good older bikes with low milage for good prices on Craigslist.

I've been using http://findoncl.com/ to check CL across the US. Little Yamaha XT225s are great little bikes that anyone can ride. You can find nice ones for around $1500 each. Suzuki DR350s are in that price range too. At that price you could have 3 good dependable bikes for less than $5000.

i agree those xt225 would be great down here, but the problem is getting a tagged bike (from the us) into mexico. it's 1 tagged vehicle per person these days.

we drove down in a suv towing my dr. dr paperwork is in my name and suv is in my wifes. you can bring other things in such as untagged dirtbikes, scotters and atv, but it would cause problems running around w/ all those untagged bikes.

that leaves me finding others who are willing to rent out their bikes.
i could partner up w/ a mexican citizen (national or full time expat) and have them buy the bikes in their name. these of course would be mexican bikes, as nationalizing a us bike into mexico costs $ and negates all the savings of buying used bikes in the us...the used bike market is the us is a great deal compared to the rest of the world.

the 660 tenere will be available in mexico in 2012 , before the US gets it :huh i'm sure some travel to mexico just to ride that bike. my guess is it's going to be wicked expensive in mexico, however. well over 10K US.

That's a bummer about the costs involved with getting bikes into Mexico. "Politics"! Too bad NAFTA doesn't help with your situation.

i'm taking a fellow inmate on a similar day tour next week.
they want to buy a house in the near future. gonna pick them up from their hotel and we'll check out all the towns north of PV and then drop em back off. i've visited most nooks and crannies and know the area very well.

Any news on bike hire? More or less any size, small is OK but in the UK I ride K75 and R100R

sorry bike rentals have fallen through.
only doing guided rides for those who ride down or day trips in my car.

i'll be leaving the area april 1 for colorado and the summer riding season.
not sure if i'll be returning this next year as of yet.

I wont have much spare money, The plan would be to ask him to buy something cheap ride it for a bit and then dump it if I could not sell it on.

How much to they go for if they are an old dog that runs? Honda CG125 would be good cos they are simple
