    Tony...

Here's what one dude did with a DL650 V-Strom, when he went naked with it. He put an SV650 tank on it, along with a round headlight and a shorty screen...

my bad, I missed that part. The crash bars though are made by SW-Motech. Any technical reason for choosing these ones over HB or Happy-Trails?
And are you thinking to make more than one skidplate :evil ?

Might be me being a bit dense, but they already have.

I say this because, correct me if I'm wrong, but everywhere else in the world, the bike he started with isn't known as a ninja. It is a ER-6f:

They also sell the ER-6n over here too:

The last letter of the model name signifies Naked or Faired.

The only thing that is branded as a Ninja here is the ZX series (ZX-6R, ZX-10R) which is a much more focused supersports bike (the ER series is a bit of a crossbreed):

Is the ER-6n available in the US? Branded as a ninja or otherwise? Having the option to put the fairing back on is nice I suppose and the front light unit on the naked ER-6 isn't the nicest around.

Keep us updated with pics of the project.

We'll find out together. I'll post all the progress here. There hasn't been much yet. Just got it inside to start looking things over a little more closely.

    Stay tuned....

The ER6n is not available in the states. I'm not just trying to make a naked ER6. I'm trying to make (pick one)

    A twin cylinder KLR
A Versys with better dirt road suspension/more clearance.
    A cheaper, lighter, less BMW-ish (sorry) F800GS

Ah, sorry. It was just me being dense then. That makes a lot more sense now.
Sounds like a damn good project idea. Look forward to seeing the end results.

Not much progress. That freakin muffler weighs a ton!

I'd like move the footpegs down and forward a bit. I was thinking about Versys pieces, they are cheap. The stock brackets may be my best option for supporting the bottom of the panniers. I'm going to pull up a chair and stair at it tonight. Maybe a beer or two will help get the creative juices flowing.

Not much progress this weekend or today. I was sick:knary . I made a rack to hold the bike while I work on it. I took a bunch of measurements so I can make some calculations. I need to figure out how much I'm going to raise the rear, the front, and what offset triple clamp I will need to get good rake/trail numbers.

Thanks. I have a big shed to keep the bikes in but it's cold out there. I need to build a garage. Buying bikes keeps getting in the way:evil I really think I'm going to get to build it this year one way or another.

I would be interested in a picture of the hub if you can get one. We can machine an adaptor out of T6 to adapt the different bolt patterns for the rotors and wheel to the Versys.

The hub width, axle size would also be a concern.

worthy goals. i've been waiting for someone to ADV a versys, knew it had to happen sooner or later. i don't understand why you started with a ninja instead of a versys, but i'm sure much that you learn will be transferable.
