So I finally had some time to dig into the old beast over the past few weekends and got her running today! Took a quick spin, not perfect yet, but super stoked! Not sure what the problem was in the first place, checked all electrical connections and improved the ground connection, cleaned the carbs again and kicked until I nearly puked before she fired up! Also got some more pics now that she's seen the light of day, yes I'm showing off :loll
Nead some advice, I've bought a TM40 with adapters that don't fit XR. How do I take them off? Are they glued in some way or just pushed on the carb body? Someone has an idea why should I not make a new ones out of polypropilen?

Hey guys, sorry missed the replies.. Yes, they are Shinko 244's. Obviously not the best choice for road, but good on gravel and fire roads. Think I'll probably throw on some Twinduro's after these, they're more expensive though..
yes I have the kendas 270, they are the perfect traveling or dualsport tire...they look identical to those above...they also last very long... they do not perform well in mud obviously and hard offroad terrain, but for gravel roads, dirt roads, and street they are awesome. cheers expect 6k miles at least upfront and around 4-5k miles out back for dualsporting...they will last longer only on street with high pressures

the best oil is the one you change often 2. get an oil temp gauge and if you ever see 300f when riding your normal routine get and oil cooler or adapt one 3. the most recomended oil on this site is rotella 15-40 stuff, they also have a synthetic, but I use delo400 which is also a deisel recomended oil and the bike loves it...so does my truck. jajaja 15-40 is a good compromise for wieghts...cold climate go 10 40, really really hot like desert go 20-50...as per the manual... if your temps never vary more than 15 degrees F. then you can actually run a straight grade oil which is the best. in fact Im starting to use my oil from the xr in the truck to save some $$ as I change the oil in my bike every 600-800miles... cheers

Haha I Watched some of your related vids too.. orderd some mirrorclamps from hongkong and these MTX80/XL500 mirrors. I think they suit an XR.
funny thing... the are sold as shinko244's but have GoldenBoy stamped on them:huh as for performance im likeing them, on the fireroads, gravel there great, not to bad in the rough and wet stuff but arnt really aggressive enough for the mud... but still ok, i like them on the road bit iffy in the wet like most knobbie tires and im finding it predictable and enjoying the slide into corners under brakes in the dry... works well with the 600 for rear wheel steering ive only got it on the rear as i prefer AC10s on the front, ive done 2500kms and its not quite half worn so im happy, i will be buying another when this ones worn.
