I've been doing triathlons for a few years now. I started on this:

    (but blue).

After about three years' worth of mods and tweaks it wound up like this:

(no, not as a unicycle with a round saddle :rofl)

I think the only stock bits left on it are the frame and the crankset.

I spent about three hours at the store getting fitted - and I wound up in a position that's WAY more comfortable. Not only that, but I feel like I'm putting down a lot more leg.

This has likely been covered in this thread, but not sure how to search for this specific issue?

    Issue:
My poor little sensitive white skin cannot take the synthetic bike jersey material. I break out into a mini pimple mine field on the portion of my back where the jersey drapes. This is worse on long rides (>2hrs.). Almost rash-like. It goes away after a couple of days.

    Question:
What alternatives are out there (brand names, material, etc.)? Cotton doesn't do this, but it also doesn't wick the sweat.

    sorry no pictures :D

Try wool yet? Lots of slick looking Merino Wool jerseys made by various companies out there.

I'd love to try some sometime, but it's pricey stuff.

... wool works :nod ... I have a long sleeve wool Pearl Izumi (kinda retro) jersey and no problem. ... if it's hot (summer) I'd bake wearing it tho' :dunno

... are there short sleeve, lighter weight wool options?

Like suggested, try wool. My merino stuff is muy bueno

You may wanna try a base layer vs an entire jersey. Less $$

You may also wanna examine why yer back is gettin aggravated but not the rest of you. If yer skin's that sensitive, you should have issues all over :nod. This a new thing? Did someone change detergents and/or softeners? :ear

Try this, maybe it'll work for you. Never worn a wool jersey myself, though.

What kind of synthetic fabrics give you rashes? All of them, or are there any particular offenders?

I suggest starting somewhere high, and ending somewhere low.

    I'm just saying.... :lol3

After re-reading your post, I think another possibility is that it might be chafing - if your jersey is a bit loose and it flaps around in the wind, the synthetic fibers might be rubbing your skin. If this sounds reasonable, then you can either get a tighter shirt that won't flap, or you can try using body glide, chamois butter or something similar on the affected area beforehand.

I'm skeered of messing with the front adjuster or the derailleur. :uhoh

Today not only would the front not engage the biggest chain ring, on the rear cogs the chain kept slipping on the eighth gear.

I'll be messing with mine tomorrow. On tonights ride, it started to not want to stay in my lowest gear. Kept wanting to upshift, then fall back off. I had to hold the shifter over to keep it from doing it.:bluduh
But, even with that, I killed it on the hills today! :clap I intentionally set out on a route that was three big climbs in a row, then a nice fifteen mile ride along the river back to town. When I got back in town, I had the option of just straight shooting it back to the ford dealer to pick up my van(todays excuse for an extended ride:wink:) but instead I said fuck it, it's only been 22 miles and went the long way and did two of the climbs in the opposite direction. Yeah, sure. I had to use my granny gear(on a triple even :hide) alot, but it's the first time I've done that much climbing in one ride. It felt good. :nod

Man, that sounds great! Aren't you afraid to ride on the road?

(I own the patent on granny gears. :uhoh :lol3)

Pedaled around the parking lot of one of the LBSs on this a bit today.

Very impressed! Might have to spec it on my next all-mountain rig.

... that jersey looks like it might work :nod (I'm not a fan of looking like a neon popsicle anyhow :lol3 ... not that there is anything wrong with it if'n you look more a part of the Peloton than I :augie )

    ... I haven't yet figured it out :scratch ... Any non-100% cotton T will do the same thing (if'n I B swet'n). :dunno

... the detergent thing isn't the issue (I don't think) as I've had the problem for awhile. So, I finally have just broke down and wear a cotton T-shirt and stash a light rain jacket for the quick Colorado cold/rain shower. But that really hasn't been satisfactory

    ... :lol3

... you could be on to something :nod ... I don't like skin tight "condom" fit so my jersey is loose, like a comfortable old T-shirt

... maybe I'll have to man-up and get a smaller jersey ... counter intuitive, huh? :lol3

... chamois glide! ... haven't used/heard of that? ... sounds like it may have multiple uses :lol3 .. maybe that is worth a try :nod

    thanks all for the responses
