I remember when I was in about the sixth grade, walking through the school cafeteria, I saw a poster advertising the Elvis Presley Fan Club; as I read it, I wondered, "Who the hell is Elvis Presley?"

Back then when a school served mammoth lunches they meant it literally.

When I was a teen ager and was so angry and people disliking our music I vowed never to be like them and dismiss music just because I didn't "get it", but I gotta say music now really does suck.

I am back to listening to two classic country CDs with tunes from the late 50s and early 60s. At least I can think back to being a young kid hanging out in a dive bar or three with Uncle Pecker. I can still smell the stale beer/puke imbedded in the floor and rank cigarette smoke.

Maybe it's the dementia setting in, but though my music-listening history started before the advent of Rock and Roll, I still find new music that I like.

Certainly not all of it, or maybe even most of it, but some.

Doo-Wop to Hip Hop; the street corner singers of Harlem & Philly.
Everyone could have a sound & it had that simplicity .
Out our way, pimply faced kids learning three chords on cheap electric guitars, cranking out some great stuff; locally "Louie-Louie" embodied the time, versions by the Kingsmen, Paul Revere & the Raiders, the Sonics.

We that grew up in the 50s-60s had the corporate Top 40.
KISN was THE station in PDX in the day & is on my "Tuned-In" App on iPhone "Radio".
Tom Murphy & Pat Pattee are still spinning the great ones from when we cruised Broadway & the "KISN Corner" across from what is now Powell's Books.

The day that music died...Seems like we all may have a date that music lost its message for us.
Thanks to Pandora we can set the push button for Doo-Wop, Hip Hop, Punk Rock, Johnny Cash or Football Game Marching Band Music.

Just remembering it is all about Rock 'n Roll and its descendent forms. Just turn it UP...!

I did hang out in Seaside a lot, but I missed that. I had just gone into the Navy, and was on the East Coast when it happened.

I also missed the Columbus Day Storm for the same reason.

I don't think it is quite that bad. If you were to back and look at Top 40 playlists from the 50's through the 70's you would see a lot of crap. Is Miley really worse than Debbie Boone?

Yeah, I borrowed my wife's car with satellite radio and listened to oldie stations, both rock and country and there were a lot of crap songs to be had. I am sure that there is some good new music, but I seldom hear it.
