R1200GS Adventure & HP2 skidplates

Just wanted to share my experience. I had my skid plate come off this past summer up in the mountains of Colorado. I turned around and picked it up. Even though I ran over it on a gravel road at about 40+ mph, I could not see any imperfections caused by the removal and it getting run over.

Looks like the right front Allen screw must have come out before the departure. The other three rubber mounts were sheered.

So when I went back, I ordered the parts from he HP2 to allow for more solid mounting. I am going to have to rethink this method of attachment. I think I am going to get some kind of rubber spacers. The Aluminum plate solidly mounted to the motor just makes a lot of noise. At certain rev levels, it sounds pretty cool though.

Hey Dirtrideroader,
I bet you have a 2005 GS. They came with rubber isolators in all four corners.
I always recommend that they be switched over to the HP2 solid front mount. The newer model GS's come with the solid mount now.

It's actually a '07 Adventure. I am going to try some nylon washers on the engine side of the plate to reduce the metal to metal contact and hopefully some of the resonation.

I dropped off a skidplate set at the post office this morning for Ted in Maryland.
It's on the way.

Just sent off a R100GS skidplate set to Bob in Fairbanks Alaska. Sounds like things are very cold up there. Still warm enough to ride here in Minnesota.

I am interested in one of these if you still make them. If so, could you tell me the length and price. I am hoping it's around 20" to 21" in total but can't tell from the picture.

Your skid plate is still going strong after 6 years of service on my GS. I have banged it pretty hard a few times and no damage to my engine. Take it off, banging out the dents, reinstall and it looks good as new again. Excellent product.
