Can somebody please tell me if or what shop in Southern California will re-map my ecu? I've called a few shops and they said CARB will fine them if they get caught doing the mod. I called a shop in LasVegas and they said bring it down, no problem. Wtf CA? PM me so the CARB nazis don't find out. Thanks - D
I have a new XC-W and would like to find or buy a copy of the schematic. Asking here because the EXC should be very close with a few additional parts. Any ideas wher I can find this or possibly other fuel injected KTM's with similar schematic? By the way, I don't have any specific electrical issues, just want to be prepared for when I do.
If you still have the smog equipment on then you have to drain the charcoal canister. What happens is the canister fills up with gas from the vent tube when you tip the bike over. It backfires because the gas in the canister flows into the exhaust instead of just the fumes. The exhaust screen makes extra back pressure which reduces the flow. You can drain it by removing the plug from the tube that comes out underneath the bike. Way back in this thread there are instructions on how to remove the smog equipment for test purposes only:)
Does it say that in the manual? That seams to me like it could only cause trouble. The pressure between the sprocket and the CS would push out any grease and it would attract dirt to the area around the seal, possibly causing it to fail.
I have both a 2012 and 2013 500EXC. I fixed the 2012 flame out problem by installing the Euro Map. Smog removed and an FMF slip on installed. My local KTM mechanic said he thought it was a bad idea to mess with the TPS. He is a chief mechanic for a sport bike racing team. My flame out was fixed once the Euro Map was installed. When I bought my 2013 500EXC, I was told KTM had fixed the flame out problem with the 2013 stock KTM MAP. Not true. I have de-smoged and removed the screen from the end of the stock slip on muffler. Back firing was fixed with the de-smog but I have some minor flame out issues. If I install the Euro Map for the 2013 500EXC, which I believe is a different MAP number then and MAP for the 2012 EXC, will that fix my flame out problem? Would like to know if anyone has done this. My 2012 500EXC runs perfect after the Euro Map was installed. It cost me $45.00 to have it done and I see no need for a tuner.
Light greasing of the splines is to prevent the the splines on the countershaft from degrading over the life of the bike. Extra grease tends to go into the void behind the domed washer. In 75,000 miles over 3 ktm 4strokes I have never had a countershaft seal fail.
Close, but the fuel from the canister is sucked into the intake. The other emissions hose allows air into the exhaust, this is just like a huge exhaust leak and ignites the rich exhaust fumes. This makes the popping noise.
Decided to try and desmog my stuff in a few steps to see what had the biggest bang (and because I didn't have the right crows foot wrench at the time to get to the SAS) With the stock ECU and the little noise screen in, there was little back firing but it's more muffled and a lot less noticeable / annoying. Removing the charcoal canister (without touching the Evap solenoid) didn't do anything. When I removed the silencer from the muffler, it actually seemed to increase the back firing and was obviously more noticeable. Taking the SAS out of the equation didn't help at all. Then had my ECU remapped and went for another spin. Again, nothing if not worse when backing off of the throttle - aggressively. But the biggest win? Shutting down that Evap solenoid. If anything that would seem to have cured the situation. Regardless, removing the charcoal canister, the SAS, the Evap solenoid (and air intake to the cylinder head) and finally remapping... Woo hoo. I'm riding it on the street these days (if you see a rider in BMW gear in Sunny CA...) ...and trying to keep my license. I can so see how this would get someone pulled over. Multiple times. For cities, you're not going to need to get past 100 and you have so many gates, err lights, and you can hook up really easy with some dual sport tires. Soooo many people are waving and motioning me to pop a wheelie... Same here. So much joy regardless!
For those of you who like Corbin Seats, my 2013 500EXC is there right now. I loaned them my bike so they can create a mold and then be able to offer a wide and comfortable seat for the 500EXC. I had a custom one done at Corbin a few months ago and it really works great for me. Corbin uses their own custom foam that is more dense than other foam I have tried. Here is what my custom Corbin looks like on my 2012 500EXC and the mold they are creating will look very similiar. I love my Acerbis 5.3 gallon fuel tank. It is very sturdy and fits great with my KTM radiator guards. It is only slightly wider than the stock setup:
While the 500EXC are great bikes, I wouldn't purchase a Corbin seat if they were the last seat manufacture on the planet. I'd rather make my own seat than buy from these A**holes. They have ROYALLY screwed over some of my other 2-wheel brethren, and for that.....screw them. just my own opinion of them, based on their treatment of other people....
don't know a whole lot about Corbin but my seat concepts order just shipped out and I can hardly wait to get that installed. hope it holds up to all the hype!
1000x. Corbin has screwed me over for the last time. Cheap materials, leaky seams, very hard foam, and usually a VERY HEAVY seat. If you ride in and get a custom seat you have a chance of getting what you want before you pay them. But after, forgetaboudit.
I have found through the years that seats are a very personal preference item. For some reason I like the very dense and firm foam of Corbin. Other seats I have tried with softer foam are too soft for me. Sorry to hear some have had a bad experience with Corbin and I'm sure what has been reported here is accurate. That would drive me away as well but I have had a good experience through the years with them but I have always done the "drive in" to get seats made so I always know what I'm getting before I leave. The seat cover they made for me a few months ago, that I picked out, turned out to be too slippery so they are replacing it with a non slip material for "no charge". Does any other seat manufacturer have the same dense and firm foam as Corbin? That is the main reason I have stayed with them. My riding buddy has tried their seats and also doesn't like how firm they are so I understand the personal preference people have regarding seats. The Corbin seat base is very heavy but the first custom 500EXC seat they made for me used the stock base. I think the Corbin base, even though it is very heavy, provides a firmer base for the wide seat. To be fair, I have only tried one other brand of seat other than Corbin. Just my 2 cents.
Ok, I don't want to turn this thread into a Corbin-bashing thread, but I think if you folks purchase Corbin, you all need to know about about their.......lets say.....unreal.....customer service. You really need to know what you getting into before you go down that road with this kind of company...When I was riding my cruiser I found out about their "stellar" customer service.....Read the whole thread....
